Ive actually used the Neverwinter Nights official soundtrack to good effect. Its got some excellent mood music.

I've been using the ambient tracks (nighttime crickets, daytime rain, etc.) on 1-track seamless repeat in the background during non-combat situations.

80's fantasy movies and sci -fi

If you can get your hands on it, the soundtrack to the Dark Crystal is incredible.

The Neverending story has some good stuff too. And some of the instrumentals in Labyrinth.

Also, Babylon 5 soundtracks.

Dude... how could you guys forget about the Baldur's Gate (first one) soundtrack?

It comes with the special edition. That's what we play in our sessions.

What I've really been burning to get my hands on is a Diablo II soundtrack CD. But the special edition for that game is still outrageously expensive (all I want from it is the CD).

If I keep repeating this long enough, maybe someone will believe me... ;)

Mike Oldfield. Look for albums like Voyager, Songs of Distant Earth, Guitars, Incantations, Ommadawn, Tr3s Lunas, or Hergest Ridge. Excellent prog rock/instrumental/ambient/world music, depending on which album.... really hard to pin a genre on him. ;)

Dude!

What about His Infernal Majesty (HIM, or HER in the states).

SO GOOD. :D Especially for a lighter modern game, with some action.
