Backgrounds--Does your PC have one? Does it get used?

When I play, I don't always bother. I'm an easy player, meaning I'm here to play whatever story the DM has ut together to run, not force the campaign down the trail of finding the man/orc/whatever that killed my father/mother/sibling...etc.

As DM, I do get occasional backgrounds but I prefer them to be basic and not heavy on plot points. With the speed that characters level under 3.X I find I barely have the time to run the plot I intended running let alone 5 other people's personal background plot.

My DM uses my background quite often and even helped me flesh out some of the major points of it. My current character is the son of a famous NPC and the DM suggested that. So far I have enjoyed it immensely! I always do a writeup, it is nice for it to come into play every once in a while.
