Bad Faith and Sealioning

It seems to me that an accusation of SeaLioning is an accusation of bad faith posting behavior.

Normally accusing someone of bad faith is likely to earn one a quick mod. But accusations of sealioning are not typically modded despite being an accusation of a particular kind of bad faith.

Should accusations of sealioning be considered as equal to accusations of bad faith when it comes to moderation?

I always liked this cartoon for this topic.

I think the relentless asking for proof is going too far. When someone says something in a thread, someone else is not going to like it. To ask if you have proof of that thing is ok, but going on for several posts is too much for me.

I tend to see this more when something more political is involved. The thread about Elon Musk is one where it seems people bashing him and I stopped looking at it after page two.

Do you mind explaining the term? Dictionnary didn't help me and googling led me to a comic where someone express disgust of sealions and has a sealion politely but insistently asking for reasons about the public statement, while the other person apparently doesn't want to retract her statement.

It's difficult from the comic to say who is at fault, the first person saying she doesn't like sealions (which is certainly a placeholder for expressing xenophobic or racist attitude, because IRL specism isn't really a thing) and not wanting to admit that it was misguided, or the invasiveness of the people asking for a backup (or presumably retractation) of the statement.

When I look at a number of threads right now, I see walls of bad faith, sealioning, concern trolling, passive aggressive trolling and insinuation.

Mods I'm sure have their marching orders on how to manage all this, but right now it sure feels like its off the rails and I'm shocked some things have been left unlocked.

I doubt that'll happen, since I've had moderators (wrongly) accuse me of sealioning, and then doubled down on that despite me pointing out this very flaw in their reasoning in private messages (which really undercuts their whole "we can be reasoned with, so long as you don't talk to us publicly" stance).
