Bag of Holding Question?

What exactly can you put in a bag of holding?

I suppose I'm asking if the cubic foot size is flexable, so you can store a ten-foot pole, or is it static, and you just take the cube root for each side to determine the size?

For example is the type 1, which is 30 cubic feet, 3.1' X 3.1' X 3.1' or can it be 1' X 10' X 3'?

We've always played that the cubic foot size was flexible ... a 10' pole is the first thing I bought when I got a bag of holding.
