Barbarian Rage and Fatigue

Except that Rage has special rules on fatigue, and doesn't follow the normal fatigue rules.

I hate you and your dam volcano logic! ;)

So he's only fatigued until the encounter ends? That's easy!

Still seems lame to me.... if a day just has one fight that lasts 20 rounds, then even if a barbarian can rage twice per day, according to the rules-as-written they can only rage once for the 20-round fight!!! :(

Time to whip out some house rules and say that barbarian rage dispels barbarian fatigue, I guess....

It's all because the standard D&D assumption is that you'll get in multiple fights per day, instead of one big fight, which is how my adventures normally seem to end up...

These tough life decisions. Like the paladin who has to decide whether to blow all his smites on the mummy he can see, or save some for the vampire that might be around the corner. Or the wizard who has to decide whether to cast an extra Scorching Ray at the orc shaman, and gamble that the group doesn't encounter wild animals in the night.

In other words, the barbarian just has to suck it up. Choosing when to Rage is a no worse a choice than many other classes have to deal with.

Though if you as the DM only have one encounter per day, I agree that you may want to House Rule it for your game. Perhaps have extra Rages merely add to the duration of a once-per-day Rage ability, rather than granting extra "charges." But if you mix it up and still have multiple encounter days mixed in, I'd leave the House Rules alone.

The idea that the problem with barbarian rage is that you can only do it once per fight is kinda ... sweet.

Try raging, then taking serious damage, then running out of rage. A high-level barbarian who rages is asking to die.

Most of ours end within ten.

And a barbarian lasting only 9 rounds for Rage is doing okay to be fatigued for one round (or exhausted if a Frenzied Berserker).

Warforged is immune to fatigue and exhaustion. So Warforged Barbarian is great.

Armor of the Unending Hunt (Complete Warrior) also make you immune to fatigue and exhaustion. It is funny that this elven chainmail is loved mostly by Orcs and Half-Orcs...

Unfortunately the armor costs 21,000+.... Kind of hurts when you need a few other things as well. :p
