Barbarians as a Race

Does anyone else think that Barbarian's should be a race instead of a class? To me a Barbarian falls somewhere between a human and giant. They are massive and powerful men who have their own culture, society, and unique characteristics. I don't believe in elf or dwarven Barbarians, they do not seem plausible to me. I think they should be a race and the could make a berserker class instead. I could see a berserker of many different races. What do you guys think?

My head a-splode!

That sounds pretty absurd, really. I could definitely get behind just changing the name of the Barbarian class to Berserker, but "barbarian" as a race doesn't make any sense at all.

Yes, you are absolutely right! Barbarians should be a race - still human though. It might not make much sense but it works fine in the game. You could have barbarian female sorcerers in bikinis (not sexist mind you, some women fight for their right to wear bikinis or even less) or you could have vikings, kurgans or what have you. I really like the idea. Reminds me of the witch in the first Conan picture; feral, crazy and scantilly clad. Yay!

An individual reference to a brutal, cruel, warlike, insensitive person whose behaviour is unacceptable in the society of the speaker.

Sounds like bonus to STR and penalty to CHA, if you ask me.

No. Not a race. I wouldn't even call it a culture. It's more of a way to describe people who aren't of *the* civilized world/country. Each barbarian tribe or clan or from a region would be a culture, I suppose.

I played for awhile with a guy who treated barbarians as a race. The most honorable race of the land!!! It was dumb.

Vikings are Barbarians, not all Vikings were berserkers, .

True. But classes are (were) a archtype of character. So a berserker could be a class. I prefer barbarian though.

Saxons would kick any Viking's butt! ;-)
