Kickstarter Barbarians of Heavy Metal Kickstarter is live!!!

(Due to the quite sensible posting restrictions on new forum members, I'll have to wait a bit to post a link, but suffice to say, you can find it pretty easily at Kickstarter.)

Designed by the creator of Barbarians of the Aftermath, Barbarians of Heavy Metal (BoHM) is a Table-Top Roleplaying game set in the post-apocalyptic 31st century where sonic technology and centuries of warfare have created the Metalsphere: a series of interstellar feudal empires based around the veneration of the Rocktagon: the Eight Great Schools of Rock.

Players take on the role of Metalheads, knights of the 31st century who roam the Metalsphere in pursuit of fame and glory. They are sonic warrior-wizards who possess rare and powerful Superstring Manipulators, sonic weaponry in the shape of musical instruments that can vibrate the underlying structure of the universe, bending it to the whim of the virtuoso musician.

The most elite Metalheads are granted the privilege of 'Riding the Heavy Metal': Titans! These giant robot combat vehicles tower over the battlefield and possess the power of an entire tank battalion. The nobility of headbanger society, those who possess these massive behemoths are, by definition, more metal than everyone else: the rock stars idolized by a society of rock stars.

I'm open to questions about the game, the setting, Barbarians of the Aftermath or any of the other games we're working on at the moment.

You seriously needed harder music for your background music.

Would have making the book hardcover been significantly more costly? Because If it is going to take $60 to get dead tree, I'm confident there will be plenty willing to drop $70 to $80 to get it hardcover.

Harder music didn't work, it competed too much with the vocals, and since I am using free music suggested by KS, there wasn't a whole lot of variety. As it was, I edited the track I did use.

Hardcovers are expensive unless you do large batches of them. If we get enough money to reach the 60k+ levels, I'll probably change the softcovers to hardcovers, and even make a custom bound one for the higher levels, but for now, I want to keep the costs down.

That being said, everything is in play, I'm even adding a new 'Acoustic' sub-level to Headbanger for those who just want the book and none of the electronic stuff, so if I get a large enough demand for a hardback, I might just do that before we get too much further into the KS...

Good.

Also what t shirt size will you be going up to? I've seen a kickstarter or two 'underestimate' the size of their fanbase and lots of folks like baggy shirts. Having the option to pile on the X's, even at an additional cost, is a good thing.

I was expecting most of them being XX or larger, but the mix doesn't really make much of a difference, so whatever size people want, they'll get.

Metalheads,
I've updated the KS page with a few new items of interest...

1. BoHM Unplugged: This KS is mainly about introducing a new technological format for RPG publishing, but due to a large number of requests, I have added a new, non-electronic Pledge Level for those of you who don't care for the bits and bytes or righteous swag and just want a copy of the rulebook.

2. I've been asked for more details on the game itself and while the mountain of material I could provide is much too much for the KS page, I have added a link to my Design Diaries at the bottom of the Game section. Everything you want to know about the game from initial conception to the current state of the rules and software, can be found there.

3. I've compiled some of the questions that have come in recently and answered them in the FAQ at the bottom of the page. Those of you on the fence might want to check those out.

Rock on, my gaming brothers and sisters, ROCK ON!!!

Another update over on the Kickstarter:

We've lowered the Stretch Goal to build an iOS version of Barbarians of Heavy Metal to 1k over the goal. So if you've been holding out because you have an apple device, it's a good time to jump in and push this baby over the limit!

We'll be adding even more updated rewards and levels over the coming week...

With 6 days to go, I've posted one final update for our Kickstarter, including a new pledge bonus, a free PDF copy of Barbarians of the Aftermath for pledges of $30 or more and a video showing the current build of the App.
