Barbrarian Speculation

Primal Defender. To speculate on mechanics, if a lot of rage/berzeker based powers are based on being bloodied, only a class with a a lot of HP like a defender would make sense.

Like any defender a barbarian would mark the big threatening damage dealer, get beat on till bloodied, then come back with some massive rage damage powers. I could see a whole set of powers that require being bloodied to work. And utilities that give back hp, temp hp, regeneration and resistances.

I say Defender sub striker (after bloodied).

My guess is that it's going to bew the first article from october, and should come ...eh... this friday (oct 3rd)... or next monday.

He's going to be a Defender with a touch of Striker, so that we have it like this:

Fighter > "True" Defender
Paladin > Defender (Leader)
Swordmage > Defender (Controller)
Barbarian > Defender (Striker)

The Fighter being a "standard" as comparisson to future Defenders.

I think they'll have powers that constantly give them Temp. HP to counter the lack of armor (no shield, no chain, no scale, no plate, not initially at least).

My take.

Striker
Higher damage than Ranger
Higher hit points but much less AC than Fighter
Two handed weapons specialization bonus of some kind.
Bunch of Bloodied triggered comeback style powers
Perhaps some bonus on death save.

Oh and second week of October.

I'd be very down with that. Especially if the mechanics were easily refluffed as Martial so we can get our Conan/Norse Berserker thang going.

You know though, he could be an "in your face" Striker. Rogues, Warlocks and Rangers do damage either at range or "hit and run", but a Striker with enough HP (and/or multiple Minor Action Healing Surges) can simply "damn the torpedos" and give what for.

I'd be down with that too. Especially since that relieves him of having to be sticky or protect the Controller. Barbarians just don't come across as "tactical".

Bah, barbarians had more hit points, but were paper thin on armor.

I'd say striker ... and defender/controller only so far as opponents should think twice about getting close to one.

As said by a couple people already ...
My guess is -- Primal Defender, with lots of mechanics that kick in at bloodied. And maybe (just maybe, though this is a wild guess) the toughness feat given for free as a class feature.
As for date, my guess is second week of Oct... so let's say oct 7th.

I agree with you 110%

Primal Striker

Probably Str-based attacks, but possibly Con-based.

Powers that work with two-handed weapons, high [W] stuff, very few (if any) effects like daze, weaken, etc. Possibly some push effects, but maybe not many.

Bonus damage against targets that have damaged you since the start of your last turn (or some such).

Low armor, no shields

Power-up on being bloodied.
