Bards too strong?

See maybe I'm just sadistic, but I would have charmed an entire other team into doing something absurd ... like stripping down to their undies and joining the Bard in a sing-along for the crowd's entertainment.

I'm a long time "bard hater". I used to mock the bard PCs one of my friends would make back in 2e all the time (in reality, he did quite well with them).

However, I want to try out a Stormsinger (?) from Frostburn. Go with a sort of nordic skald of Thor type of thing. Could be cool.

Suggestions can't be that complicated.

They went over the rules of the arena before hand and there was never anything said about charms, beguiling, or enchanting the other groups before or during the fight. He just wanted us to battle it out...and it was too easy anyways...four groups in the arena and we wiped them all out pretty easily. Wasn't even a challenge without my charming.
They probably didn't explicitly say that you couldn't slip your opponents a slow acting poison before the match either. I'd be willing to bet that there are no explicit rules in the NFL against bribing a maintenance guy to sabotague the other team's gear before the big game. It's still cheating, simply by the definition of the entire setup - that you fight your opponent in the arena.

But I'm more and more thinking he should have let you try it and not given you fair warning...
