Batteries in a fantasy world

Sorry- got called away.

The reason I brought up the ancient batteries was 2-fold...1) pointing out their existence, and 2) opening up possibilities for evil DMs.

Imagine: Going through an adventure, getting the huge pile of swag, only to find out that a lot of the good stuff is only electroplated.

Imagine: As above, but finding out only after you've paid off someone with underworld connections...or after giving it to a dragon or xorn.

Hilarious adventuring soon to follow!

Wow, I really like this idea.

What sort of "hard stats" does Greystones have? What's the life of it? Market Price? etc.

I can see all sorts of uses, from mundane to war to travel.

Haven't got any yet. Its currently just an idea; I haven't quite decided whether the dwarves trade it or horde it (in the latter case, I like the idea of wars fought over this stuff). I was going to probably give it charges like a wand, so that, say, fifty uses and it's depleted.

I use the idea of the historic parthian battery (a claypot containing tar, and a pair of metal rods iirc) imc as the power source of 'Lightning Spears' (think the JAfar weapons from Stargate) as well as larger ship mounted versions.

I also had a static generator (theorised to have existed in ancient egypt) as a kind of Tesla coil weapon which the resident priests were able to control via use of Rings of Atun
