Battlestar Galactica RPG?

The trickiest thing I can think of is how to treat Humano-Cylons from new BSG, since biosynthetic robots from d20F just isn't close enough (I think biosynthetics were meant more for things like androids from Aliens). Humano-Cylons are probably best treated as humans with a sort of "Cylon Replica" template that makes the Cylons their primary allegiance and it cannot be changed, lets them stay in contact with other Cylons (subject to jamming and interference), they are sterile, and they suffer a double damage from any ability damage caused by radiation (judging by the events at Ragnar Anchorage during the mini-series.)

Umm ... if Boomer is anything to go by, they're not sterile at all. I'd also question the "primary allegiance cannot be changed" bit too. Galactica-Boomer apparently lost her struggle with her programming, but Pregnant-Boomer seems to be acting independently. Unless, of course, that's all part of the Cylon Plan -- whatever that Plan is, which still seems rather vague to us poor humans. :)

Really, it's hard to tell what the mental characteristics of the organic Cylons are. Their outlook is not human, and yet it seems that playing the part of humans colours their individual thinking to some degree. One wonders if the Cylon Plan is progressing exactly as expected ....

If they release it, I'll probably buy it, but what I would like to see is a BSG setting book for D20 Future rather than a self-contained book. I doubt I'll get my wish if it ever happens, which I kind of doubt.

It seems it was a specific type of radiation they were vulnerable to. After all, they seem to be doing pretty fine on Caprica, which has been nuked six ways from Sunday.

They also seem to be physically more powerful, or at least the Six model is (judging by the season finale). Not "can lift tanks" powerful, but definitely tougher than a trained human soldier.

Event Horizon Productions, the company that published the first edition of my HONG KONG ACTION THEATRE! RPG, negotiated for the license to the original BSG back in 97. We had Richard ("Apollo" - or "Tom Zarek" in the new series) Hatch on board to do fiction bits for the beginning of each chapter, the whole nine yards. Universal was ready to sign.

But then we looked at the financials and realized that doing so would mean something like 6 months with no product coming out before the BSG game launched, which would have killed the company. We just weren't that well-capitalized. So, we turned it down, which is something I still regret.

I agree, we did some good design framework work for that game. Some elements of the system design ended up being re-used in Heaven & Earth (EHP first edition, pre-GOO), but a lot interesting work ended up being left on the playtest room floor....

I'd actually prefer to see an RPG based on the original series rather than the new series. I don't care for the new series at all.
Well, the old series had a "bigger" universe- there were aliens, several planets to explore.

TNS Galactica is a lot more limited in this regard, at least if you start after the Attack of the 12 Colonies.

From a RPG perspective, the "Old" Galactica settings seems better, but otherwise, I prefer the new...

Why BG would need a specific game? Just take d20 Future or Traveller 20 and you have the set of rules. Then create a huge starship as a base of operation, and then create a new adventure each game session, with planets that will never be visited again, etc. It should work fairly well.

Because the lazy gamers are too lazy to do it themselves. After all, isn't that what game companies are there for? I mean, if they get paid to design games then they should design a BSG RPG.

:p
