I disagree. The main reason is that ABC could not afford the expensive budget of the TV series, which lasted only one season. NBC managed to do two seasons of Buck Rogers of the 25th Century. Both of these TV shows take place during the first Star Wars movie opening, as well as Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Well, I disagree that you believe that BSG is a failing show.

Then again, you may be right. As a genre fan, I don't follow the preference of the mainstream audience. Still, it was following on the heels of Star Wars success, even if it debut one year after (what with noticing the success that would immediately propose such a TV series of the same thematic elements, and pre-production, production, and post-production ... one year sounds about right). Perhaps we should see what were the show's rating in the 78-79 season.
