Battletech/Mechwarrior New Time Line?

novyet

First Post
Ok I've been offline for like three weeks due to a lightning storm, and while I was chilling out, my GF gets me a copy of Technical Readout 3067. So I'm reading it and then it dawns on me that Fanpro set the time forward by like 5 years, that the Federated Commonwealth Civil War is now over, with Katherine's faction apparently the loser. There were a few other things I noticed, but I was wondering, did I miss something recently where all this was explained or is it not released by fanpro yet?

MechWarrior: Dark Ages

I don't know about Fanpro or the latest sourcebook, but when WizKids' new version of BattleTech comes out in August, they're jumping the timeline forward 60 years.

You can check it all out at their website: WizKids

Be sure to go to the INN Comstar part of the website. That's where you'll find all the new background stuff.

And while I'm a little disappointed by the "dissolution" of the Houses (especially my beloved House Steiner), I am excited about the new game. It should be very cool.

60 years I thought it was closer to 150? (course I did skim that part ...)

for those of us who hate painting and tend to drop things or have 6 year old nephews who love the "big robot game" (now he nows the name is a pretty good mechwarrior) who tends to drop and break things, the plastic WizKids stuff is going to be a godsend!

The Great Houses still exist in Mechwarrior:Dark Ages, they have just been reduced in size. The Wizkids map just shows the Republic of the Sphere and not the whole Inner Sphere. You can make out the outlines of the remaining Great Houses and Clans surrounding the Republic of the Sphere interactive map.

The details on how the civil war ends have not come out yet, even though TR:3067 goes past the end of the war. The last novel (Endgame) detailing how the war will end should be out sometime this month or early next month. That should answer many of the questions that are running rampant in the Battletech community.

Check out www.classicbattletech.com for great battletech coverage.

Really like the site, both in lay-out and look, very BattleTech-ish. I like how they worked the time-line into a 'circle' back to the Star League's beginnings. Not to mention cutting back on the absurd numbers of Mechs that were littering the Inner Sphere by the end of FASA's reign.

I wonder if they're going this route in an effort to 'replay' the down-fall of the original Star League, not to mention capturing the feel of the original boxed-sets with thier gritty 'after the bomb' feel. Hopefully they won't immediately devolve into another FASA-like arms race of 'Tech readouts'.

I dropped out of battletech about the time the Clans entered the picture.

Is there a website out there with a complete timeline of the game or do I need to read all of the books?

Well, I'll be... All this time looking at the site and I never really noticed that before. Well, duh... :)

Now I'm even more excited because I can still swear allegiance to House Steiner!!

BAH!! I can't believe the coolest icon of them all, Smoke Jaguar, is gone!

well I guess it's up to the Blood Spirits to make this galaxy right!

While I hate painting, I'm not entirely sure about the new battletech system they'll be putting out. I'm more interested in classic battletech. Although if the newer system is better than I'll be all over it :D

I got to demo the new MW game at Origins, and I had a blast. I had 1 Mech and 3 infantry bases, and there was a large variety of different stats and weapons (energy vs. ballistic, flamers, SRM's, heat) modeled pretty well. All of the figures that I saw looked really cool, and the game will have a much more combined-arms fell then the old BT. I'm going to be getting into it quite a bit, I'm sure.
