[BDG] Dawning Star on Temporary Hold Due to Artist Issues

You know what? I am going to buy two copies of the book when it comes out, that way, Cergorach, you don't need to worry about it, Blue Devil isn't losing money on you. You can drop the issue and go and find some other cause to champion, maybe you can chastise shopkeepers who would dare accuse shoplifters of stealing their merchandise when caught redhanded. I am surprised that you demand political correctness from a victim of a crime, suggesting he not malign the offender.

It is a sad state of affairs when a publisher apologizes for something beyond his control and gets reprimanded for it.

Well said!

Put me down for a copy too when it comes out.

Not that I wasn't planning on buying one anyway. ;)

I would say that all the consumer needs to know is that the product is delayed, if someone asked one could say that there where issues with an artist.
This is more confrontational then i'm used to on this board (atleast from a publisher), and without the original images to compare, i can't say this is very usefull information...
As a publisher, reading this in a forum where publishers frequent, I'll contradict you and say that I am VERY glad he posted it here and that it is indeed very useful. I'd also add he did so very professionally and did not, at any time, "nail anyone to the wall." I'm sure if you were a publisher, writer or artist your opinion on why it is very important to let the community know when there is someone out there doing stuff like this would be different. As a consumer it doesn't affect you at all, so you have the luxury of being indifferent.

But you already have, complete with names, just minus proof.
I guess you missed the point that the ARTIST removed the proof from those threads. If he was inocent, why would not only refuse to respond to the accusations, hang up on Justin, but also take down the only thing he could use to prove the accusations to be false? I can't think of a single freelancer artist who would do any of those things if their work with publishers, present and future, was being threatened by false accusations.

I'm not saying it isn't usefull, i'm just saying that it just feels 'wrong'. But dealing out 'justice' isn't our forté, that's the courts buisiness, and the person that can claim copyright infringement is the artist slighted.

This also affects me, as i also commision art, i have in the past and will in the future. Using someone else's art without permission is rude at best, the problem is that i can't really see wether he used someone else's art. It's just that i also illustrate on occasion, and if it's this 'easy' to get someone on a 'blacklist', then i find it very scarry.

I also do artwork and illustration and I am glad this was exposed. Nobody blacklisted the fraudulent artist but himself. He posted the stolen work in the wrong place. And let me tell you, we at ConceptArt can be extremely vicious on this sort of thing, and justice is dealt, often very swiftly and in a most satisfactory manner. I saw the work before it was taken down and also saw the Blue Devil pdf preview. Gary took Travis's work, slightly altered it and claimed it as his own. Anyone that steals another's work and claims it as their own deserves this sort of exposure. How would you feel if someone took a piece of your artwork and claimed it as theirs and made a profit? Would you like it if others in illustration left you to your own devices, or would you prefer some backup from your peers?

 That picture will make the front page of the website, for sure.
If that is what it takes to make a point, I will stick to it. I might contact you as it comes out to buy a couple of copies as soon as they are available. I am assuming print on demand?

Then the issue is that you didn't read the offending threads and PDF when they were initially posted -and- relevant. A lot of us did, and we did so because of the warning posted here. You are ragging on Justin for posting the warning here... so now that the artist has removed the offending art from his server, Justin should stop warning people about it? Once the proof of the crime is swept under the rug, the crime itself should be also?
