Be afraid for my players, very afraid

Von Ether

Legend
I now have d20 SG-1, AEG's Series Archer (Psionics, Mystisim and Chemical Enhanced Soliders), and SA's "The Shop" (psi-PrC's, Power Armor and rules for custom superspy gadgets). I also have the Poly's d20 mini-games for Mecha Crusade and Genetech ... and I am not afraid to use them for NPC villans.

Yes be very afraid for them.

I'm not afraid for your players ... I'm afraid for you. By purchasing/using these products you are opening them to your players. If you don't then you're introducing game imbalances - especially with SG-1 (which I don't really like personally).

If you limit your players just to core d20 Modern or Spycraft then you are essentially weighting the deck in your favour. If this was your intention then sure .. your players are screwed.

I don't really see a problem here. Just because a GM is going to use something doesn't mean it has to be open to players as well. I often use spells and feats from the Book of Vile Darkness, but there is no way I'm opening it for use by the players. Shoot, I'm running a D20 Modern game right now using spell, psi, and any other wierdness I feel like, but I don't think I'm allowing PC's to use magic or psi. I don't see this as a problem, and have yet to hear any complaints from my players.

Using some spells/feats from a single sourcebook that is pretty balanced with the standard books is not an issue. The books listed in the opening post have varying degrees of compatibility with each other. That is the basic point I was trying to make.

I use the BoVD IMC and players have no access to it, but the spells in there are pretty balanced with standard rules. The minute you start combining all those sourcebooks together to throw things at the players you will be hurting them more than helping them.

Until, of course, that fateful day when the players decide how to have their characters capture some of this verboten tech. :)

The game will hodge podge a bit.

I have to admit, I have a well-deserved reputation for never running a "pure" game. :)

The set up will be that the players will be teenagers who were rescued from a "The Firm" project(ala Firestarter, Dark Angel, etc), so all the PCs will get some enhanced "racial" bonuses. They will have access to SG-1 and SC psionic classes. The "Earth" will be world that has forgotten it was a Earth colony in the far past.

To tweak the game to the players' preferences (and the fugative theme of the game) we'll be dropping some of the Action Dice stuff and the whole "resources" system. Down the road in a plot twist, they'll get the resources back as well as power armor.

The cyborg (mecha crusade), Chemical Monsters, and mystism will be featured on the NPC side ... D&D and d20 Modern critters will show up as local flora and fauna as well as aliens.

While there will be some speed bumps, I think that in moderation it will be a fun game.
