D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5e 2024 Monk Handbook

I agree, Beastmaster is one Ranger subclass that requires you to have Ranger as the main class, otherwise it will fall back hard and fast.
Yeah, which is too bad because it’s a natural fit for MC Druid. I just let the pet scale by character level, personally, or make it a sidekick.

But this is all tangential.

One Monk thing I haven’t scoped out yet for 2024 is whether or not Monk/Moon Druid is still awesome. I mean it’s THP and special senses, and if you go far enough into Druid there is flight, and even a wolf has higher base speed that you’re adding Unarmored Movement onto, but the real juice previously was having bear HP to burn through while sacrificing no capability (other than the sacrifice of monk levels but spellcraft makes that up).

Perfect Focus - When you roll initiative and have less than 4 Focus, you have 4 focus. This is so weak it would be mediocre on low levels, even with improvement that makes it more useful, this high and next to Discipliend Survivor it looks like a bad joke.

Monk's Focus - You gain Focus Points equal your Monk level, that you regain on short or long rest. You also get a bunch of cool abilities that you can agument by spending focus. Sadly you suffer from dependency on Focus that makes this your most important resource. You're not in any fight for the long run and you want to short rest often. The abilities get buffed at level 10 with heightened Focus, raising this to low Green.

So, I’m not sure how Perfect Focus can be ranked so low, considering the dependence on Focus, and the fact that there is no limit to uses of Perfect Focus, meaning that between recovery, normal number of focus, less dependency than in 2014 (you get more for free), and Perfect Focus, at that level you never lack Focus for at least the first two rounds of combat. Every combat. You have no reason to hoard focus from that level on, because even if you blow it all and end up in another fight, you still have the ability to do 4 things, whether that’s movement, 3 extra attacks, stunning strike, or a subclass thing. Considering how much a monk can do to enemies in two rounds spending focus, that is very good.

Also, could you possible put sections into spoiler blocks?

Yeah Druid in some ways has more juice with wild shape, but idk.
At higher levels, yes. But not at level 2.

Your AC is basically the same either way, no real bonus.
Multiattack won't stack.
Primal Stike doesn't work with unarmed attacks.
Deflect Attacks work with THP, but it's just added and not multiplied.
Dex is likely lowered in beast form (maybe?)
Flying snake is now a monstrosity

Unarmed attacks still work, as would other monk bonus actions.
Beast speed would stack with monk speed.
Font of Moonlight would add to each attack.
Lunar Form also adds to unarmed attacks, but that's 14.

Druid dipping monk 1 for the bonus action grapple would be good, action to cast Spiked Growth, and drag. Turn into something fast.
There's probably a creature gets a bonus vs grappled as well.
Monk 2 for mobility is solid as well.

I haven't looked though all the forms, but I don't see what a monk would get dipping Druid, besides utility.

Giant Toad.
Bonus action grapple.
Action to Swallow.
Run away till they die.

And you can still punch when you have someone swallowed.

@Not a Decepticon

Coming in to ask a question. I saw this in the build section-

"You can replace Charger with Skill expert to get expertise in Atheltics for grappling."

And also references to the skills in the skills section. I've been over the 5e24 rules for grappling several times, and I don't think it works like that.

Grappling makes the target save against a fixed DC (8+str+prof), and there aren't the same 5e14 ways to maximize that. No opposed checks, etc.

Athletics (strength) and acrobatics (dex- definitely what 98% of monks will be using) still has some use. You can use an action to end the grappled condition by making an athletics or acrobatics check.

TLDR; might want to clarify the language? Or did I miss it?
