"Beast" not in 3.5

As I state in the poll...

Seems odd to have Animals and Magical Beasts, but no ordinary beasts. So, I would like to see one of three things happen here:
  1. Drop Animal. What are currently animals and beasts become Beasts; Magical beasts remain Magical Beasts.
  2. Drop Beast, rename Magical Beasts to Magical Animals. What are currently animals and beasts become Animals; Magical Beasts become Magical Animals.
  3. Drop Beast, rename Magical Beasts to Beasts. Wnat are currently animals and beasts become Animals; Magical Beasts become Beasts.

My $0.02 worth.

My preference would be for the Beast->Magical Beast progression, or for the Animal->Beast progression.

Animal > Beast conversion would be too confusing, you'd have to know if a creature was a beast in 3.0 or the new 3.5 defintion of beast. Animal > Magical Animal I like though.

Does anyone know whether they're removing the clause about animals only having an INT of 1 or 2? This will have some interesting game effects, one way or the other.

Also, am I right in thinking that they'll probaby be moving animals such as griffons and owlbears into the magical beast category? From Ed Stark's sneak peek piece, it sounded like they were moving any "obviously fantastical" creatures into the magical beast category.

It's a shame: no wildshaping into a griffon!

Hopefully a Roc will still be an option ;).
