None of us knew exactly what a shot girl is. My guess was they meant she's one of those bimbos that lay on the bar and let people drink shots from her bellybutton. Is that what they're referring to?
Or it's poured down her cleavage. Or down her leg. She's a living lewd drinking glass.

It's not what her Daddy hoped she'd grow up to be.

That's what I figured. Well, at least other shot girls aren't going to see her title on the show and shake her head in embarassement :p

What annoyed me was that once again, D&D is used to show how a person is a nerd.

I dunno...at least most of society has managed to get beyond using D&D to show how a person is a devil-worshipper.

At clubs and bars shot girls are the girls that walk around and ask people if they want to buy shots. They are usually not waitresses, they do not take orders (at least at the clubs we go to) and work in all types of clubs not just strip clubs. They are paid slightly less, and are usually a bit more attractive.

Thisshow is about stereotypes. The girls on that show are no where near as stupid as that in real lifea nd the guys on that show are no where near as geeky as they portray them to be. One show is not going to change anyones mind about what a nerd or geek is and how dungeons and dragons is reflected in society. If you dont like it, start off with yourself. I don't hide my hobby and i live a pretty normal life. Prove to society that everyday folk play the game not just pocket protecting nerds.

People hate what they don't understand.

Many people will not be able to understand Role-Playing (heck, my wife, who is one of the smartest women I've met, doesn't understand it and she tried a few times) so they denegrate it and those who participate.

Same as some Role-Players do with LARPers.
And stupid people do with smart people.

[Edit] Oh, and Whizbang, you are the man!

One of my friends just auditioned here in Boston, and got called back. He'd be really, really good. And as he puts it, "it would really suck to have to live in a house full of super-models and talk about LARPing."

...He was overjoyed to be with us, saying he'd moved to the area a few years ago (he's the media coordinator), and was shocked at how hard it was to find "normal" gamers who wheren't psycho, obsess on gaming 24/7, and who didn't have mental ilness and/or severe social problems...

...And far from being ridiculed for gaming, I've found people open up to the idea of gaming once they knew a few "normal" gamers- not to mention that a lot of the young women in college are open to the idea of gaming as long as the guy doesn't give them the "creepy" vibe. (And no, I don't fraternize with students- both due to my university's policy and ethical reasons)...

While I do not begrudge anyone some discretion in their choosing of associates, the message I get from that is that your attitude is edging towards an aspect of your vaunted " normal " that is very uncomplimentary.

It's more like a cotton candy man. They wander around bars, selling shots, and encouraging people to shoot them as quickly as possible so they become more drunk and think it's a good idea to do it again.
