Beholder in Seattle

Oh this is where the title goes?
News article

It says they are displaying a 13 ft beholder in various places around the city. The picture looks a bit astonishing though... has anyone actually seen it? (I was expecting a balloon, but it looks pretty solid. How would they transport it then?)

I guess this would be a sign that the marketing effort is heating up...

It looks like it's designed to come apart in sections. I bet the eye-stalks come off, and then the head's got those two seams down the center on either side of the eye. The mouth probably comes off too.

Looks cool. I wonder what people who don't know what the hell it is will think when they see it in public, like at bus stops and coffee shops. Just a freaky piece of art, I guess.

Now that I look at it, I think it is the same Beholder they had at GenCon last year for the announcement. The really cool awesome neat nifty thing was they also had a life size troll and a floor divided into 5' squares which gave a really interesting perspective on things.

Did I really just put life, size and troll all together in a sentence?

It is the one from Gencon. Even got a picture of a friend of mine sticking his head into its maw... It's big, but it's not Macy's parade baloon huge. Those squares on the floor are 5'.

It was a neat setup - they had the troll, the beholder, a "life-size" battlemat and some appropriately scaled dice as well.

Dammit, now I want to play some life-size D&D....

"Yeah, Tim, you take damage and move back 3 squares... and John, you're dead, so you just lie down in that space, okay? No, you can't go play the Wii, you're dead! Now hang on while I try and push this colossal red dragon..."

It is a life size statue made by sculptor Kim Graham. It weighs a few hundred pounds and is made to disassemble for transport in large crates.

It is indeed the same beholder from GenCon.

We are filming a TV commercial and it is the star.
