Beholder pack of minis this fall

It's announced like a one-off, but if it's successful, you'll probably see more like it.

This, I could see myself maybe getting. Non-randomized, instantly useful, monsters. I'm not a big buyer (or lover) of minis, but the collector in me likes the monster packs.

While I like the idea of a 4-pack of neat beholders, the idea of a limited edition and the price point does not make me happy. Better be a damn fine paint job for that kind of cash!

I found out about the first Magic "From the Vault" product about a week before it was to be released . . . my local FLGS couldn't get anymore in that had already been preordered by other customers, and everyone online was selling it for criminally high prices, in the triple digits! (it too was $34.95)

So, not impressed with this revelation.

Eh... I've spent well over $35 on a night of drinking or a single meal before. Not every night, mind you, but I don't consider $35 to be a huge sum of cash as a general thing.

I don't know if I'm interested in paying $35 for four beholder miniatures though. I'd have to use a lot of beholders or the sculpts would have to be far superior to the beholders that I already have.

While I haven't been a fan of WotC for quite some time, the $35 price point for 4 beholders is actually in line with what single beholders go for on the secondary market. (Actually, this set would be a little cheaper.)

However, I agree that the sculpts/paint job will go a long way towards validating that price point.

I don't want three new species. I want one regular beholder, one beholder lich, one Huge beholder, and one gauth. I don't want a swank display case.
