Beholders for $1!

My only problem with pdfs (and it's purely personal) is that I have no internet access at home. I only get on this board from work. What size file are they? I'm tempted by the Beholder book, but I'd have to have a way to transport it, and I don't want to go pay Kinko's to use the internet and then print it. Might as well buy hardcopy on demand and let the money go to the publishers at that point.

Print on demand copies are obviously not feasible at $1. I'm sorry. I know that you've said many times on this huge, internet-based messageboard that must be read from a computer screen, that you don't like pdfs, but we'd just hoped that you might make an exception this time.

I really hope that doesn't read smart-alecky. It's meant to be a little tongue in cheek, but not mean. I just feel like I have a sort of friendly rivalry with people who don't like pdfs.

no offense taken. :D

i'd be willing to pay more for a hard copy.

heck i paid $18 for the miniatures handbook. (even tho i still feel i got ripped off by at least $13. that thing wasn't worth $5 much less the $29.95 retail price they claim  but that is a topic for another thread)

Sarcasm nonwithstanding, .pdfs aren't nearly as useful at the gaming table or as a day-to-day reference.

I have a pretty decent printer & thermal binder at home, so it's not a problem for me to turn a .pdf into a hard copy, but the reality remains that there is a very good reason that .pdfs are the red headed step child of the industry.

I don't usually buy PDFs, but have purchased a few. For $1, I've picked a few of these up. I can print PDFs out at work, but I have to agree with what a few others have said, they aren't as useful to me as books are. But for a couple dollars, I'll give a few more a try.

Pdf files, when zipped, tend to run from 3 to 6 MB, depending on the size of the book and amount of art. I've seen several products with little art that were only about 1 MB when zipped. RPGNow details the size of its files, I believe.

For those wondering about a print version, unless I'm completely mistaken, this is Goodman Games' Complete Guide to Beholders, which runs $19.95.

Excellent resource with many uses for beholders outside of hidden atangonist and open enemy.

Diaglo, could I point out that you could fill the rest of your $5 order by browsing the Classic D&D ESDs that RPGNow has. I'm sure you're collection is nearly complete, but you might find something that you don't have.

Unfortunately, the scanned PDFs are rather big files. Still, I thought that idea might sweeten the idea.
