Bemusing Battlemind discovery

I dunno how many others have noticed this already, but I hadn't seen anyone mention it previously, so I thought I'd share. Turns out the Battlemind class name isn't as "new" as I originally thought. I just noticed as I was flipping through my d20 Modern campaign guide that there is an Agent Of PSI Advanced Class called the Battle Mind. And just like the 4E class, it combines physical prowess with mental energy to become a devastating warrior. I guess WotC never lets an idea just disappear. ;-)

Just because it isn't a 4e name, doesn't make it less lousy. I would rather psionic warrior. I guess they had to stick with one word names for some silly reason.

But ardents are psionic warriors as well.

And monks.

then you end up with 'how come these warriors are not psionic warriors even tho they are psionic and warriors.'

Well, I think we all can (and already have) gone through the "this name stinks, I wish it was X" game. Heck, I went through it back before PHI with the whole "I don't like having both a 'warlock' and a 'warlord' as names" thing. Throw in the 'warden', and I still occasionally wish they had named the warlord 'marshal', even though it really doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game or class whatsoever.

Am I crazy about the name 'battlemind'? No. Do I like it heads and tails above 'psychic warrior'? Absolutely. And I'm much happier with 'battlemind' than 'warmind', which had been suggested way back as an idea when the psionic power source was first announced. A fourth 'war' named class and I really would have rolled my eyes.

Heck, in my perfect world, they would have kept the name 'Empath' rather than 'Ardent', because I find it more indicative and evocative of the power source it represents. But at this point we just start getting nitpicky and splitting hairs, and it really becomes nothing more than personal preference.

Err, fighters?

(I think Psionic Warrior is a bad name, but not for your reason.)
