Best 3.5 spell?

I think Moment of Prescience will become one of the must-have 8th level spells. For most of the day being ready to have a +25 bonus to a check in the one case when you really need it? Seems to knock foresight into a cocked hat in terms of bacon-saving.

Which is why I've essentially given the spell to everyone in the group, in the form of hero points. Makes no sense to have the wizard holding a monopoly on something like this.

The scorcher!

I'm assuming Tasha's allows a save. If not, that's really over the top and probably deserves my vote. If there is still a save involved, with the way saves got nerfed, this spell loses much of it's min/max ability.

The scorcher, however, which is a nice little no save, has still got tons of potential. Although I don't find it "overly" powerful because of some nice limitations...fire (most common to resist/immune), three separate attack rolls to hit (liklihood of misisng can reduce effectiveness), three small blasts instead of one big one (low damage, apply resistances to each), and close range. In spite of these limitations, this spell just went right up there with Magic Missile and Fireball/Lightning Bolt as "must have" lower level spells for all casters. Bravo!

Which spell is the "toughest, toughest"? How about Shape Change! Bam! SU abilties??? Hello!

okay...

very interesting choices....

Basically, in my gaming group and sessions, a spell can not be a powerhouse spell above 3rd lvl since it is so rarely used.

So...sure I agree Shapechange is awesome...but no one ever really gets to play it every time they bring out their character.

I will agree that scorching ray may be the new "best" spell. It is low enough level to be used almost immediately by mages...low enough that it can be metamagiked.

Admit I had not looked too hard at Tasha's and now will...thanks.

Regarding the downsides to enlarge....there are some...lower dex and AC...but with the change to power attack...and enlarged fighter (18 strength) using a greatsword with 2 hands is absolutely scary....at 1st lvl...with at least +5 to hit, dealing 3d6+6 per swing...with 10ft reach.

So to be fair with my original question...what is the best new spell that is <4th lvl.

Thanks for the thoughts,

Forsythe

Shades...

Every 8th level conjuration at your disposal, super flexible, and even if the save is failed, 80% potent.

Need a mount? Call up phantom steed. Fancy a rest - bring out Mordy's Magnificent Mansion. And of course there are all those monster summoning spells... all at your fingertips! Oh! and then there's Acid Fog (no save + no SR)?

The possibilities are endless!
