Best Adventure Idea EVER! (Snakes! On a plane!)

Y'know, sometimes living in Japan has some advantages. I haven't even heard of this movie until now. Hopefully it won't even make it to the theaters here. :)

Snakes on a plane? Yup, that sound was the bottom of the barrel being scraped.

I do want to see it... I have chosen to fully embrace the hype and watch it for the sake of having seen it in the theatre.

I get the general impression that this movie is done in the style of the old 70's blaxsploitation films... films that were so bad, they were stylin'.

I mean, come on. Snakes. On a Plane. Says it all, don't it? ;)

I've seen it. IMO, it felt like the whole movie was a setup for Samuel L. Jackson's line:
Enough is enough! I have had with these mutha ****ing snakes on this mutha ****ing plane!
. There was a pause just long enough for the SLJ fans this was their moment and brief enough not to get in the way.

This is going to go down as one of those movies that are meant to be seen with the right audience in a theater, like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Or maybe even Evil Dead 1 and 2.

If you don't think there can be such a thing as a quality B-movie... this won't be for you. I laughed, it was a riot!

Which begs a question, what is a B-adventure in D&D terms? And could there be good B-adventures like there can be good B-movies?

I think this is relatively spoiler free, but just in case I will warn

Ok, saw it last night and I have to say it met my expectations (which were admittedly low). So I wasn't disappointed, my wife enjoyed it, I endured her nightmares last night, she was happy, thus so was I.

They hit you over the head with the plot (literally) for the get go, no character backgrounds or setups, just jumps right into action and doesn't really slow down until 30 minutes into the movie. I think I could count on my fingers the number of lines anyone other than SLJ had in the movie.

Think Airport 77 and you will start to get an idea of how the story works, though Airport 77 had far more character development in it (and was a superior movie in my opinion).

If you go to see a campy B movie and set your expectations for good dialog and plot aside, it is a rather kick ass movie. The special effects were just ok, though the snake animations were rather well done, but the action is literally non-stop. There were two times where I laughed, and about a half dozen where I groaned at the stupidity of it (think of any typical B horror flick where you know whats going to happen next), and of course a few of the obvious scare scenes that had my wife yelping out loud.

Best part of the movie for me was when the credits rolled and they showed the music video. That was a pretty good music video.

The upside, I get to pick the next movie we go out to see :)

It's been an internet phenomenon. Fans have actually caused the movie to be changed. Snakes On A Plane was the working title, and Sam Jackson was attracted to it because of that. Matter of fact, when they wanted to give the film another name - the drab Pacific Flight 121 - Jackson objected and said he signed on to do Snakes On A Plane. So they kept that title. It sounds like fun to me. Not every movie has to be a turgid Merchant-Ivory production.

This sums up the style of the movie pretty concisely.

From what I've read the goal was to make a semi-spoof of late 70's disaster flicks, without going quite so silly as something like Airplane!. It's certainly not a movie that's meant to be taken seriously.

It would seem they succeeded.
