Best Babylon 5 antagonist

Which is the best Bablyon 5 antagonist?

I can't disagree more with Endur. One of the things that was so great about B5 was that it was designed with a beginning, a middle, and an end in mind. When it was over, it was over - JMS didn't try to extend it beyond the original plan.

If you're going to vilify anyone, vilify TNT for cancelling Crusade.

Had to go with Bester and Morden.

Morden was great as the slick agent of evil that caused trouble on so many levels. It was great seeing him get his in the end.

Bester was also a great bad guy. He knew himself that some of the stuff the PsiCorps was doing was wrong, but we loyally went along with it, and also had his disdain for "mundanes" going the whole time. Best thing about him is that he wasn't one dimensional, there were moments where you could actually feel sympathetic towards him.

JMS & TNT gave us season 5 and the B5 movies, and I'm grateful for that (In The Beginning was fantastic).

Crusade didn't measure up to any season of B5. Even season 5 of B5, the weakest of the five B5 seasons, was better than season 1 of Crusade. Obviously, there was a certain amount of fatigue setting in with the B5 crew, and bringing in new actors for Crusade would allow the show to grow in new directions. Did TNT give Crusade a chance to get better? No, TNT didn't. TNT pulled the plug. TNT looked at Crusade, decided it didn't look enough like B5, and dropped it.

As to whether JMS could have given more B5 seasons ... he could have if he wanted to. The fifth season was a "bonus" season, after all. He completed his original five season story in the first four seasons because he didn't think he would have a fifth season. B5 stands as a complete story if you just watch seasons 1-4. Some of the things he dropped in season 4 for lack of room were then brought back into the fifth season as well as some new things.

I voted for Morden, since he did have if only indirectly the single greatest moment in the entire series.

It was just after Londo had killed Morden and his Shadow Guardians. When he summons Vir and tells him to go outside as he has a present for him. Vir goes and looks up and we get a flashback.

Mr. Morden: What do YOU want?
Vir Cotto: I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this.
[waves]
Ambassador Vir Cotto: Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?

And then Vir waves up at Morden's head.

That scene completely blew me away and left me laughing so hard it hurt. It was a perfect example of how having an over arching plot can pay off years down the road.

Bester. I also liked what some of the novels did with his character. However, I do think we saw him too often in Season 5--I realize there was the psi storyline, but any good villain gets worn down by overexposure.

Aside: Seeing Lord Refa on the list made me think back to the cast commentary track on the Season 2 DVDs. Bruce--watching along and, as it became apparent later, "in character"-- says, "I really hated that guy." Claudia's like, "The actor?" It was really funny, esp. in the context of the rather raucous commentary track.
