Tad Willams: The War of the Flowers
I normally don't like books like this, where someone from the 'Real' world is drawn into a magical realm, but the way this book was done was excellent. I loved it.

John Marco: The Eyes of God
Another excellent story. As soon as I picked it up I couldn't put it down. It consumed an entire weekend, and I have to say that it was time extremely well spent.

Other than that, I can't think of any book I've read this year that was good.

My vote is for the JLA/Avengers mini-series, with the miniseries Astro City: Local Heroes a very close second.

Comics- JLA/Avengers really good stuff and I enjoyed Ed Brubaker's run on Detective Comics. Also Walter Simonson's Thor volume 2.

Books- March Upcountry by David Weber and Steve Erikson's first 3 Malazan Empire books.
