D&D General Best D&D Setting?

Eberron is the best setting because you can run any type of adventure in it in any kind of environment...
traditional dungeon crawl, jungle hex crawl, political intrigue, pulp, noir, etc.

Again, I have to say that there isn't really a "best" setting that will be best in all situations. After all, an intrigue, mystery based campaign isn't really what, say, Dark Sun is meant for. Not that you can't do it, but, it's not really what Dark Sun is about. If you're doing a sort of wilderness hex crawl campaign, Planescape isn't really doing you any favors here since that's not really the strength of Planescape.

So on and so forth. It's far better to start with a concept or genre and then pick a setting that best fits that concept.

For me, the best campaign setting is Eberron.

Its not the best for me in terms of what I like. Its the best executed one with minimal disruptions between editions and best "quality" in terms of what its doing.

It was redone in AD&D 2nd Edition in a supplement called The North but don't recall how different it was from The Savage Frontier.

I've got that as well. Haven't gone through them liberal by liberal to compare. The North has a nicer map.
