Best D20 non-WotC Campaign Setting?

Well was hoping Joe would side with me, but if you do choose KoK, it's a good setting. I will say it's not for me, but I do appreciate what I consider "quaint" charms. However I feel it lacks some of the high adventure content of some other settings mentioned here. But that's again a personal feeling, not one based on anything specific. In any case what ever you choose Blue, just know I'm always around for what ever your d20 needs. (Admittedly it's mostly Scarred Lands but I DO have other books. ;) )

Well, I DM the SL setting so you know I enjoy it, but... it sounds like he's looking for more of a Greyhawk style campaign which I think KoK does a lot better than SL.

The lack of adventure support is another nail in SL's coffin for Bluemoon's criteria. A trilogy of slowly released modules does not a fantastic setting make. I mean D20 characters advance so friggin fast that if there weren't some serious adjustments to the module when I ran it... suffice it to say walkthrough.

But each sourcebook gives you almost ready-to-play adventure or tons of adventure's ideas...

My choice - Scarred Lands. I love it (my copies of City of Sin, Hornsaw Forest and Penumbral Pentagon have just arrived - yummy!!!!)

My vote and those of my Monkey pupils go to:

Oathbound,

but keeping in mind that Oathbound is best played by experienced parties I recommend these others until then:

Rokugan, an amazing setting and would make an interesting match with Oathbound

Scarred Lands, there's so much stuff!

Swashbuckling Adventures, again with the stuff and also a very nifty base for Oathbound.

Kalamar, some of the stuff is unsatisfying to me, but the adventures are nice.

while moving to a new campaign setting isn't easy, it's not any worse than moving to any OTHER campaign setting,

What? :p

I'm for sticking with what you know and incorporating another setting in little by little if switching is indeed what you want to do. If I had to do it again thats what I think I'd do. Don't ask me how I'd do it, I'm just talking out of my ass on this one.

Oh, settings worth a look:

Kalamar : good on politics, solid like a rock setting.

Scarred Lands: L33t gamerz paradise, topless elves can't be all bad!

Erde: Sweet story line, very well done races, mythical in approach.

and of course there's always the good old Forgotten Realms, its been around forever and ages like fine wine.

I looked at Midnight and was underwhelmed, much like many of the other new settings to come out that have failed to impress me.

Valid point Joe. I guess I'm just still pining here until July. THEN all the good stuff comes roaring in.

Another vote for Kalamar

Well, if you're going on some sort of voting system, I felt obliged to stick my hand up here. ;)

However, I've said everything before, and my "review" is a testament to how I felt about this setting. Perhaps you might read this and see how I felt -- perhaps it will persuade you that this is *not* what you want... whatever. I offer it for consideration:

My ENWorld Kalamar review

BLUEMOON:

First of all, Welcome to ENWorld, on behalf of the moderators!

Second, as others have pointed at, let me take the time to invite you to explore all the great forums here we have to offer, in particular the Story Hour forum - it's our forum where community members here post prose logs of their particular gaming group stories, set in either homebrew campaigns or in published settings, and recount the adventures that they have in their group. It's a great way to get to know how published settings interact with the players, and how the players respond to the different environments of Kalamar, or the Scarred Lands, or other settings!

So I invite you to check out our other forums, because there's a wealth of info from our community here to help.

Good luck on your setting search!

Bluemoon, you said want spells, feats, monsters and campaign setting related-stuff?

Scarred Lands

  1. Creature Collection I & II with all kind of monsters. Soon to come Creature Collection Revised and Creature Collection III.
  2. Relics & Rituals I & II, with new spells, magic items, Prestige classes and new kinds of magic: Ritual Magic and Tattoo magic.
  3. It's got more civilizations/cultures that you can shake a stick at.
  4. Ghelspad cover explains everything in the main continet and there are and like a dozen books related to cities/nations/areas/societies.
  5. The SL splat books are all coming this summer.
  6. The Titans and titanspwan add that extra original-cool trademark thingy.
    [/list=1]

Relics & Rituals I & II, with new spells, magic items, Prestige classes and new kinds of magic: Ritual Magic and Tattoo magic.

I'd go so far as to say the setting is cool. But they have some of the most unbalanced, rediculously overpower spells and feats in pulication today.
