Best free anti-virus software?

I have had Norton AntiVirus (which I kept up-to-date), and was still getting viruses every once in a while, and I couldn't figure out from where.

Then I did some research and installed AVG Free Edition. It works along side Norton (haven't had any conflicts between the two yet), and it would detect viruses in Kazaa files I was downloading before the file had even finished.

I wholeheartedly recommend AVG Free Edition!

...Wow, I sound like one of the commercials! :P

I work in the security industry. I use AVG on my PCs and Windows based laptops. I use Virex on my OSX machines... (For now. looking for something non-McAfee based for OSX)

Yet another vote for AVG

AVG is good stuff. They update often and dont pester you with annoying e-mail or banners etc. Plus i have scanned numerous computers carrying Norton and found nothing and put AVG on and it found many nasties.

Hate to be the one to break the unity...

I'm an Avast user. It's free, and it has a nice Piratey-sounding name!

AVAST YE HARDIES!

And that's worth a lot, in my book.

It's also worked very well for me, and has defended my home system and laptop against a lot of malware and virii.
