Best High HP Skill Class

Hey:

The premise is this:

Starting a new character, ECL 3, LA is 2, and I have 1 class level to work with.

I am looking for a high hp class, for survivability, but also for a class with good skills. I'm currently in Warblade, but something doesnt feel quite right. Skills arent bad, but they arent what I am looking for. I'd really like something with spot, preferably.

Stuff I have considered: Barbarian (Totem Variant - Kraken(modded from Bear)) but they dont get spot either. Monk, but they dont get great hp, and I lose 1 bab(not the end of the world at str 21) but their skills are great, Warblade, except the skill issue, and Swordsage, except poor hp. Ranger mighta worked, but they also have kinda weak hp, is there anything with D10 HD and a nice skill list that includes spot?

Grrr. Don't have my books handy, but I seem to recall that there is a 'Giantish' race/class with a decent skill list. You take a level of Giant, get +1BAB and I think d10HD and other cool stuff.

I'm thinking this might be in Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed? Or I saw it within 15 minutes of last reading that book...

The race I am using is prechosen, its a Sahuagin. I am fairly sure I'll end up either Warblade or Barbarian, but I was hoping a great class would fall from the sky and be just what I need =)

Can you convince your DM that the skill list of your race should be added to any other class you chose? Sahuagin has Spot as a racial skill...

For a single level, you can't really beat crusader for resiliency. d10 + Steely Resolve 5 + Stone Power = very very tough. 4 skill points doesn't hurt, although the class skill list isn't anything to write home about.

If you don't mind burning a feat, Guerrilla Scout, or something named along those lines, gives Spot and Listen as class skills, it has a counterpart feat (Guerrilla Warrior) that does Hide and Move Silently. They're from Heroes of Battle.

You want d10 hit dice, then that narrows the list of base classes pretty considerably right there. If you want Spot on the class skill list, or more than a couple skill points a level, you're out of luck. You need to consider prestiage classes at that point.
