For someone who is planning to build a mystic theurge (or multiclass wizard/priest), what do you think the best low-level utility spells are? Low-level being 1st thru 3rd level.
Best low-level utitlity spells for a wizard or cleric?

Alter Self...good in 3e...must-have in 3.5...must-MUST-have in FR.dreaded_beast said:
For damage I think flame sphere, burning hands, and melph's acid arrow are all great at low levels. Searing Light is nice since you'll be sacrificing turning ability to arcane and theurge levels. Spiritual Weapon is also nice.
For Buffs divine favor is nice from cleric list (and should always be useful since it's a luck bonus), Mage Armor is is a must (unless you want to count on still spells for your arcane stuff). Align weapon and alter self are great low level buffs.
Speak with the Dead is a great investigation tool especially in mystery adventure plots.
