best mapping software?

I just started up a home campaign. I need to make some maps and was wondering what people would recommend. I've been using the freeware Dungoncrafter for making some dungeons but I need something for the outside, including world maps. I've heard some good things about Fractal Mapper which some people said is better than Campaign Cartographer. Thanks for any information.

CC and Fractal Mapper are both by ProFantasy, which is probably the #1 name in fantasy mapping software. It's pricey, tho.

Check out the Art and Cartographer forums for samples.

Campaign Cartographer is the best, the learning curve can be an issue but if you follow the book you will be mapping quickly.

NBOS is another good one, a good bit cheaper with a lot of power.

AutoRealm is a free program and can produce some nice maps.

I prefer Coreldraw, a vector dwg program & graphics suite. The cost has come down a lot & you can probably still find V9. Maps & interior component pieces I have created can be found at:
