D&D3e:
We've saved a group of several hundred refugees from a destroyed city. They've been camping in the mountains for several days besieged by undead, and are in need of shelter, food and medical attention. We've been traveling on a city-sized flying metal turtle owned by an NPC sorceress, and so we try to talk her into letting the refugees on board. She absolutely refuses, because they are so dirty and smelly and will track blood and mud all over her nice clean turtle.

We try diplomacy, logic and appealing to her better nature, to no avail. She is of undetermined but much higher level, so getting our way by force is not an option. The weather is about to get bad, and these people will die if we can't get them aboard. This is when the party druid (my wife's PC) speaks up.

"I turn into a lion." "OK, so...?"

"I cast Purify Food & Drink on the refugees!" "They're not food."

"What part of LION did you not understand? Do I have to eat one to prove it?"

Needles to say, it worked like a charm....errr, orison.

In the depths of the Underdark, the party encounters a fearsome undead whose gaze kills, and it slays the key NPC guide who knows the way to the MacGuffin. Not having a way to raise the NPC, the PCs stuff his body into into a bag of holding with their accumulated treasure and head for the surface, to have him raised so they might continue their quest.

Arriving back at the temple of the Sun God after a week's travel, they inquire to the high priest as to the possibility of raising their friend from the dead.

"Killed, with a gaze," the high priest considers. "Hast thou not heard of the dreaded bodak? Those killed by them rise again as bodaks within a day unless their remains are immediately blessed."

Chagrined, the party looks sheepishly at the rogue now toting a "bodak in a bag". He's wrapping the mouth of the bag with wire just in case the imprisoned bodak tries to force its way out.

"The good news," the rogue observes, "is that our worldly riches will remain well guarded. The bad news -- it appears that we're broke. Again."

And then there was the time we used a reincarnation spell as a form of interrogation, but that's a story for another time.
