Best Mood Music for Gaming

Hey Mark, do you have my Theme Song Challenge for your list?

I had a soundtrack playlist worked out for my Paridon campaign. I'll see if I can find it. The Totentanz song from the link above was the basic theme music. It used stuff from Silent Hill and Nine Inch Nails.

Basil Poledouris usually works pretty well for ambient music.

Dream Evil works very well. In particular, the song 'Chosen Ones' is great to set the mood for a dramatic moment.

The music from the Halo games works well too. Most people are familiar with the title theme, but there are plenty of other songs from the soundtrack which make great mood music and aren't as well known (which is nice if you want something your players aren't too familiar with.)

It may be considered a little cheesy, but Manowar is good mood setting music.

It depends what kind of mood you want to set.

If you like metal, you might check out some Ahab (Call of the Wretched Sea, Dvinity of Oceans; funeral doom), Isis (Oceanic/Panopticon; atmospheric sludge) or various funeral doom (Funeral, Thergothon) or drone (Sun O)))).

I especially like Ahab - the riffs are slow, heavy and set a good ominous atmosphere for gaming. It's good for background music because there aren't alot of distracting time signature changes, fast drums or wild guitar solos (or even vocals for that matter).

Well, I wouldn't want to hear Dark Angel's Darkness Decends either..

This is a gaming song we wrote while reflecting on our youth and our early years of gaming back in the mid 80's. I'm on bass and my buddy Aaron sings and plays the guitar.
