Best of d20 ???

Ok, I know where most people, includeing Morrus, stand on the topic of a free resource on the net that includes a very large amount of OGC. This thread is not for discussion of that topic.

What do publishers and consumers think of a hardcopy book or a PDF, either for free or for sale, that is a Best of Fantasy d20? I am thinking something about the size of a splatbook, about 100 pages. It would have the best OGC feats, prestige classes, spells, magic items, monsters, alternate rules, new rules, etc. It would have all OGC material that was previously published.

If it was a hardcopy book for sale, would it be a good thing?

If it was a PDF for sale, would it be a good thing?

If it was a PDF free download, would it be a good thing?

Who would decide what is the best stuff to put in the book? ;)

If such a thing were to be done I would love to see it as a physical book. Mainly because I like to have something I can bring to the gaming table. Printing larger PDF's is not an option for me. So a book is definetly a good idea.

Hmmm....sounds like an interesting idea. I have to reiterate the question though of who will be judges? Any of your 3 options would be viable, although a hard copy I probably wouldn't get, due to limited funds.

Already done.

Green Ronin did the spells. Mongoose is doing the Prestige Classes & Feats.

Monster collections abound. No need to collect them into a 'best' of.

Really? What are the book names that hold the "best of" then?

Are they collections from other publishers, or only from their companies? When I hear a "best of" collection, I think of something that pools from across the spectrum.

I would like to see hardcover.

I have yet to see any of the Green Ronin stuff or the Mongoose collections.

Quite Frankly I find Mongoose material to be a bit too unbalanced for my games, so I am not sure that I would trust their judgement.

Absolutely on offense is intended by that statement whatsoever.

I think Ultimate Prestige Classes would be an all-mongoose product. They definitely have enough material to draw from.

I don't think so-- but when I asked Matthew about it a while ago, what companies would be included, he put off answering.

Maybe now that we are a little closer to release date he might let slip...?
