Here's an idea to try to use the ENnies as a catalyst to drive up back list sales (sort of). Once the nominees are chosen, pick out some juicy bits from each nominee (oh, 5 to 10 page excerpts). With 24 nominees that makes fore a 200-240 page "Best of" book. Ideas on format:

  • Each article would be produced verbatim with the publishers express permission, including both it's OGL and Non-OGL content (hence the reason why the publisher's blessing would need to be secured). If possible the item's layout as presented in the original form
  • Winner of the best cover art award has dibs on the cover of the Best of Book.
  • Profits will go to support the operational costs of the ENnies and the ENWorld site.
  • Copies of the book could be provided to retailers to encourage sales of the original products.
  • Each article would contain ordering information for the product.
  • Each product will have only one excerpt no matter how many nominations it goes.
  • Honorable mentions will be included.

Are the publishers out there keen on this idea? It's just something that occured to me that might be fun.

The only issue I could see with this from a consumer's point of view is that alot of the "compilation" books I've seen pretty much require you to purchase the full version of the product in order to use the info/know what they are referring to/etc.

True dat, if not carefully chosen. That's something that lies ultimately with the editors, and it is possible that a book might not be able to split up, though I doubt it.
