Best of Pratchett

I think there's the standalones, the Rincewind books, and the Death books can be read in any order. The Guards books should be read in order, though skipping Guards!Guards! isn't a problem (despite what some have said, I think it's the weakest Watch book). The Witch books are probably the most dependent on being read in order, though you could easily skip Equal Rites (I wouldn't, but it's not really part of the main chronology).

You may be right, Dave. Guards, Guards! was the first TP book I read and Equal Rites soon followed. It had been a while before I picked up another and perhaps my perception of them was clouded by time and enjoyment of subsequent books. Like someone else mentions, though, they are all good for at least a chuckle. :)

Hey all,

Well, pretty much everything has been reccommended already, but my favorites are:

Good Omens
Soul Music - This is probably my favorite Discworld one, though it is the first one I read, which may have influenced me.
Maskerade
Men at Arms

Of course, they're all good. Just head to the library and start checking them out.

Thanks guys! I didn't like Fifth Elephant all that much, but i suspect that's because it was my first Pratchett book. The book store was closing out the hardcover for $4, and hearing alot about the author I picked it up. A few chuckles, but I think it was seriously hindered by my lack of knowledge about the characters. I'm gonna re-read it tonite at work.

I'm glad 'Interesting Times' was suggested, i've been itching to buy it. I chuckle everytime I see it in the store, remembering the chinese curse "May you live in interesting times".

Library is no-go i'm afraid. I can't rent/borrow in practically the whole chicagoland area. I forget about the books/movies and return them months late. I find its cheaper for me to BUY the book or dvd instead.

Lots of good sugestions here, thansk everyone. I didn't want to post too soon and stop the flow. Now that everyone has laid out their favorites, are there any Pratchett books that you would recomend skipping? Whats the worst of the lot?

I'll give my recommendations when I get back from work tonight. Until then, I’d just like to give a small plug to my humble web site:

The Dysk Theatre

If you’re looking for information on the Discworld books as plays, check it out.
