Best Primer?

Some are new, some are old (and have been stripped because of the flaking).

I do my painting in the basement these days (a pretty recent change). Previously Id just take up a section of floor with a board and my bag full of paints. Recently we did some work downstairs and I converted the area into a paint station.

However, I have always done my priming outside, often 2 or 3 days before I actually start painting. I use a small board as my priming surface, and in inclement weather carry everything inside to prevent difficulties (inclement also including the really hot and muggy days).

I'll give the cleaning a try, but I have my doubts thats it. I always thought I did a pretty good job of it.

I usually use a dunk and swish in Acetone for my metal minis. For plastic use warm water and dishsoap or some other mild degreaser (like Simple Green) with a toothbrush. The best primers are enamels since they bond to the metal more strongly than acrylic based paints. Personally I prefer either white or black flat Krylon, or automotive primer in the same colors.

Dupli-color sandable primer. Pick it up in an auto parts store for $4. I love the stuff. I do not skimp when it comes to painting and this stuff, although economical, is awesome. I started using it after Mike McVey recommended it.

Yep, me too. Auto-primer has worked great for me.

I like the Reaper brush-on primer, myself.

It gives me much better control over the thickness of the application, and it's more convenient because I don't have an indoor area where I can use spray primer.

While I'm not actually good at painting minis, I'm looking to get back into it after some 10+ years 'cause I did enjoy it & since i'm goin through a D-vorce now, i have time.
