Best superhero movies?

And by "best", I mean the one you liked the most. KISS.

For me it would go

The Dark Knight Returns due to being my favorite graphic novel and then getting turned into one of the best DC Universe Animated Original Movies, along with the fight between Superman and Batman.

After that it would be in no order

Avengers
Iron man 3
Dark Knight Rises

I have liked almost all of the recent Marvel offerings - Avengers and Iron Man being high on the list. Setting those aside as a unit as being, well, trendy...

In no particular order:

Spider-Man (the Tobey Maguire film)
Chronicle
The Incredibles
Mystery Men (in its way, it is the Galaxy Quest of superhero films)

Superman I & II
The Dark Knight & TDKR
The Avengers
Iron Man
Captain America 2
Spider-Man 1
The Incredibles
Hellboy 1
Tim Burton's Batman

After that, they all start getting a little weak. A large group of watchable movies but nothing special.

And then there's a group of bad ones. Daredevil, Green Lantern, the new Spider-Man films, the Fantastic 4 films, Electra, Catwoman, Ang Lee's Hulk, Iron Man 3, Captain America 1.

And then below all that is David Hasslehoff's Nick Fury flick.

Tricky. To me, the top three are Captain America I, Spider-Man 2 (Tobey), and The Avengers. I'm kinda conflicted on the Spider-Man one - I like Garfield much better as both Spider-Man and Peter than Tobey, but the plotting in the first two Tobey movies was better. Superman 1 & 2 are still the best non-animated DC offerings.

Superman 1&2 (Donner)
Batman 1&2 (Burton)
Batman 1&2 (Nolan)
Blade 1&2
The Crow
Dredd
Darkman
The Rocketeer
Spider-Man 2 (Raimi)
The Incredibles
X-Men 1&2
Unbreakable
Watchmen
Avengers
Iron Man 1
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Batman: Under the Red Hood

I hear Birdman starring Michael Keaton is also good, but haven't had a chance to see it.

I also want to plug two video games: Freedom Force 1&2

Oh, geeze, yeah. I forgot Unbreakable. Excellent film!

I have not yet seen it, but from what I've heard, Birdman isn't so much a superhero film as it is a film about superhero films.

Some of these I wonder at calling Superhero films: I love the Rocketeer. Excellent movie. But to me it is more pulp than it is superheros.

I almost added Scott Pilgrim versus the World, but I didn't because it isn't a superhero movie. Unfortunately for it, it doesn't fit easily into any other genre either? Video game movie? Romantic comedy? Action? What is it?!
