Oops... sorry about the double thread. My system hickuped on the last one and didn't apply the poll. :heh:

What system in your opinion is the best to date? I've got a feeling that since this is primarily a d20 site that I know which will win but please be honest. If you don't see your choice up there please let us know which you prefer. Keep in mind ease of play, ease of teaching, character advancement, and realism.

While I think it's hardly perfect, and other systems do certain things better, I think the d20 does the most things well. Easy to understand, easy to use, lots of flexability, good power scale, mostly balanced...

I voted Chaosium (although it's not showing up for some reason...:( ), but these polls are really useless. It all depends on the type of game you want to play. If I want to play an unknown horror game, I'm going to use Chaosiums BRP system. If I want to play fantasy, I'm going to use d20. If I want to play realistic/historical, I'm going to use GURPS. If I want to play over the top action I'm going to use Feng Shui. There is no "Best" system, just systems that are better at representing some things than others are.

Only if you value ease of play, ease of teaching, character advancement, and realism...

Generally, people choose the system that suits their style of play. There's no such thing as a perfect system. Arguing which system is "better" than another is IMHO pointless.

That said, I still choose d20 ;)

I think that d20 has the best combination of good system and wide genre support (meaning that it is adaptable to lots of genres, not that it has lots of sourcebooks - though it does). However, there are other systems that do "their own job" better than d20.

I choosed Other, for Lejendary Adventure.

That being said, I agree with the above post, there is no one "best" system, depending on what you want to play different systems handle different situations better.

As far as doing the most things, I think that would fall under GURPS.
Although D20 handles things pretty well, somethings I think are changed from game to game, for instance the EQRpg uses spell point system vs. DnDs Spells Per Day.

Gurps I think is pretty well Universal.

But my picks would be Lejendary Adventure, d20, HackMaster, then Gurps.

Okay... let me clarify because everyone who posts is going to bring the setting into the discussion saying that different systems are better for different settings. That is true but I am talking about the basic mechanics. Which one gives you the freedom to make whatever character you like and is most easily adaptable to new rules. Which ones cover the widest range of possible situations.

I went other. The system I'm really liking these days is the simplified d10 system Eden has in Buffy and Angel. It is very DM and player friendly. There are not complicated rules, its easy to get into a good flow, and the system never gets in the way of the game.

I love Rolemaster. I think it handles a variety of thing very well and the charts don't bother me. Then again if any system was crying out for in game support it would be RM, I mean imagine RM where the results could be had simply at a click....

Given this clarification I'd say Hero system (so I voted Other). I haven't seen anything that comes close to being as good at handling ANY genre. Of course, the price is complexity. I know several people who play Hero games, but get someone else do all the character creation mechanics for them.
