Best way to kill a dragon?

The hound is stationary and ground-fixed, so it would at most help for a single round of flanking (as the dragon should just move or fly away). Now, you'll have to lead it into the hound because (as I mentioned) the hound is stationary. I think the hound gives a warning as well (bark) and that might be enough to ensure that your single flanking attempt never happens.

Alot of work for not much gain. you're probably better off investing in another 5th level spell. Maybe Bigby's interposing hand for some cover....too bad the dragon is too big to drop a wall of iron on - that would be 10d6 of non-savable damage.

ok, not too familiar with blindsight, but now that your first priority(proving me wrong) is complete, can you actually answer the question that I asked? it would be VERY much appreciated. I'll even re-state it for you. Can mordenkainen's faithful hound effectively be used to allow me to flank the dragon?

Hmmm.. I was coming back to see if no save double damage cold rays or planar bindings drawing upon your bond with Mystra or empowered enervations or using blink to get sneak attacks or even using remove resistance has garnered any comment. But I have to say, that comment up there is pretty snarky considering you are asking for help.

Be nice. :)

Jeremy, you've always seemed very helpful, and I appreciate that. However, I don't appreciate people who post a reply and all they do in the post is attempt to prove me wrong. If he would have stated, " dragons hindsight, no invis... yada yada yada.." and then answered my question, I would have greatefully tooken the criticism and the advice as well. But no, all he did was prove me wrong and in no way tried to help resove my true question.

Question:

Answer:
Plane shift

To be fair, what are the odds the dragon has it? Don't have the books in front of me, but I don't think it is an innate ability. Plus even if it available, you just cost the dragon a descent spell, and bought yourself a round. When fighting beefy dragons don't scrimp. Now would also be a good time to pull out any of those last ditch items. Also taking the fight to the astral may not be such a bad idea. The free quickened spell per round would help negate the physical advantage of the dragon.

Blink is good even against geatures with blindsight.
By the books Shield provides cover.
Sneak Attack with your highest level spells because the DM might insist that if the ray is foiled by Spell Resistance, than the attack does no damage and you will not get sneak attack.
With fly you are more mobile than the dragon, it has a poor flight, limiting it's maneuverability.
Haste raises AC too (sometimes we forget)

Okay constructive ideas...

I was being honest before when I warned you not to go into the lair. It is simply to well trapped/prepared. You have to get it outside of it's house. Think about it, do you try for the king in the castle or when he's on the road?

So the first thing to do is lure it out of the lair. Try not to take it where your party is since it's not very fair to draw them into a battle like this.

The next thing to do is to get it into a confined area so that it loses some of it's advantage.

After that I can't think of anything you can do, but these should definitely be the first 2 steps.

I always have a plane shift ready when I get to that level. It's really the ultimate get out of jail free card. It's also much harder for an oponent to locate you after a plane shift than after a teleport.

Nope no planar binding. and to be perfectly honest, the DM does NOT (edit) play out lairs to well. Fighting in the dragons lair would be exactly like fighting in an open grassland, or the main room of a mead hall.
I highly doubt he will implement any traps at all, and there will certainly be no constructs or guardian creatures.
I also have no idea if the dragon even fled to his lair.
