Best way to kill a dragon?

Your best bet is to treat the DM nice. Prepare some cold spells. Say a RP prayer, and go in fighting. Your DM will probably fudge in your favor... :)

Lesson: Always let the PC's know you mean business every now and then or they won't respect the situation!!

First, sorry that this post doesn´t provide any tips how to actually defeat the dragon because this requires some serious min/maxing I cannot provide, but I will analyze the situation how I understand it.

You have reacently fought a blue dragon and are fatigued from the fight and you want to hunt a red dragon which is stronger than the blue, lightly damaged and hiding in its lair. You received your spells back and got some extraspells too. What about the other party members? I suppose they haven´t received any divine intervention. Will they support your attack?

Your main weapons are your increased sneak attacks and your spells. The main flaws here are that because the blindsight of the dragon you can only sneak attack while flanked, in the first round and with blink. The second problem is that most of your attacks will be useless against the dragon. Your spells are subject to spell resistance and your regular attacks will have to beat a very high AC. So at best you will get 2 successful sneak attacks. And for this sneak attacks you must be near the dragon what is very dangerous for a mage.

I think your best chance is a hit and run tactic with summoned creatures and spells which will hinder the dragons movement together with "creative" attacks like the bag/hole trick. And you can always run and return later. (But the dragon might attack you first on surprise).

Nope no planar binding. and to be perfectly honest, the DM does NOT (edit) play out lairs to well. Fighting in the dragons lair would be exactly like fighting in an open grassland, or the main room of a mead hall.

Than there is a chance. And hope that your DM doesn´t read this or any other B.A.D.D. Thread. My advise is prepare and rest a while before taking on the dragon. Revenge is served cold (You know what I mean I hope). If you fight the dragon, please poste a battle report. I´m interested on how well your DM plays dragons.

Make sure you stay out of melee combat. If she grapples you it's over. You are going to have a problem getting close enough for a sneak attack (30') while staying far enough not to be grappled. You have to do something to ensure that she can't just move and grapple you immediately after a sneak attack. Don't forget she'll be hasted so she can take an extra partial action every round. Although you should be hasted as well so that advantage should cancel out in theory.

Jeremy, you've always seemed very helpful, and I appreciate that. However, I don't appreciate people who post a reply and all they do in the post is attempt to prove me wrong. If he would have stated, " dragons hindsight, no invis... yada yada yada.." and then answered my question, I would have greatefully tooken the criticism and the advice as well. But no, all he did was prove me wrong and in no way tried to help resove my true question.

Prove you wrong? How about "set you straight." Just an FYI for your own good. Of course, if your DM's command of 3E rules is on a par with yours, I'd say you're going to beat down the dragon with ease

Okay, now that we're done being snarky to one another, let me reiterate the other fifteen people in this thread who have tried to explain to you that you're putting far too much effort into losing this dragon encounter. You're trying to find ways to win, and we're trying to tell you it can't be done given the situation you've described. You came here for advice; we've given it. If your DM runs the dragon in character and at the appropriate power level, you're toast. What more do you want from us?

When you have time, give use a report of the battle with the blue dragon. Than we can see how your DM plays dragons.

true..if he plays the dragon as stupid, breathe land claw claw bite and do nothing else he aint' playing her right.

proper way is to breathe why flying through, pull a snatch and drop and then come back and land on the pc's and breathe again. Claw/Claw/Bite routine followed up by a snatch and swallow or a wing buffet. Then take off and breathe again.

FAce it chief if your dm played a woosy dragon you'll kill the red easy. Why not save face with you and your god and vow revenge at a later (and somewhat smarter) date and time.

I would just like to say "thank you" to those that actually posted some tactics I could use.

And force-user, I dind't ask for advice on why I should run, or why I am going to lose.
After-all, the ONLY thing I asked for was tactics, NOT if you would think I would win or lose.

And I really don't suggest challening someone's "command of 3e rules" based on the fact that he doesn't know the effect of ONE single ability (hindsight). I don't know you or ur knowledge, nor do you know me or my knowledge.
Oh, and I love how you say "now that we are done snarking one another" right after you finish ur last little "snark". (always trying to get in the last word it seems)

And I never asked whether or not I was toast if the DM ran the dragon properly, as I said above, I asked for only tactics with spell casting. I know this is confusing to you. But just try to read it very carefully, and if you have too, read my very first post about 4-5 times if need be. Then perhaps you can post an appropriate reply to my ONE AND TRUE question, thanks again... for umm. well, ur "criticism".

(no hard feelings :) just tellin how it is, god bless)

See, when we know more about the situation we can help you better. When you only want some spell tactics, memorize as much cold spells you can (ice storm is usefull because it allows no ST) and no save no SR spells and hope for good rolls.
Or use indirect spells like wall of <something>, cloudkill and summon <something> to corner it and set up some combos.
And be sure to dispell its protection from cold (the dragon will have this up) ore use some other element (acid and lightning)
