Best way to kill a dragon?

see the kicker here is to find out what the dragons horrible save is and exploit it. Is it will? Ray of enfeeblement, stun spells, etc. Fort? poison, vampiric touch, etc Reflex? Cone of Cold, Ice Storm, lightning bolt.

I got an idea: Why not just collapse the mountain on top of the dragon. Cast a huge fireabll or massive damage spell on the cave and have the mountain fall inwards killing the dragon..since your pissed off you don't care about the loot inside just killing the dragon. Make it's cave it's tomb and move on..

Hope and pray that you have a Hold Monster prepared, and that by some miracle that it actually works. Try to coup de grace it for a couple of round, if that doesn't work.....run like hell.

It'd be a true Miracle for Hold Monster to work. Dragons are immune to paralysis.

On a more serious note, what you really need are spells to soften it up like enervation which doesn't allow a save, its really the only way of lowering its saves to the point that you might actually successfully cast a worthwhile spell on it. The problem with that is you still have to beat its SR and as a 12th level caster you are really screwed here unless you have spell penetration and greater spell penetration and even then its really a losing gamble. And without someone to run interference so that you can at least have a chance to cast spells you are in for a rough time. Flying into the situation as you are, I hope you are comfortable with the loss of your character because I cannot see how he can possible even survive more than a couple of rounds, much less actually harm the dragon by himself without an extreme dose of good luck. Enervation and save or die spells are probably your best bet, but they are not much of one. Just remember Wall of Force is you friend and probably the only spell that might give your character the chance to live to see the next day even though it won't kill any dragons.

Isn't Hold monster a mind affecting compulsion rather than true paralysis effect, or is that a distinction the game doesn't make. I don't have my DMG handy to look it up.

Enervation is definetly a good thought. Also, vampiric touch, considering it has no chance of saving. only SR with that one, Speaking of which, while I was fighitng the other dragon, I maximize vampiric touched him, rolled a 20 for crit and also did 7d6 dmg sneak attack, for a total of 111, which means I also gained 111 hp. My character has over 210 hp going into the battle.

Even with it at 2/3rd health, a level 15 character is not going to solo a CR 20 ancient red wurm and win. Sorry man. There is no tactic or spell combo that I can think of that is generally available to your character that will cause you to kill the dragon before she makes mincemeat of you. Roleplay your dramatic moment, die well, and make a cool new character is my advice*.

*Should your character somehow solo this dragon successfully, have someone smack your DM for cheesing out. Thanks.

Another combo I was thinking about was the effective use of spectral hand and sucking touch. Sucking touch is a touch attack that deals 1d4+1 per every two levels (max +6) of str dmg save fort for half. I would do 1d4+6 every attack. It lasts 1 minute per level (spectral hand also lasts 1 minute per level). If the creature touched is reduced to 0 str, it becomes a shadow in 1d4+1 rounds and is permentaly under the control of the caster. The caster can only control two HD per caster level of shadows at one time, meaning I can control 24 HD of shadows. What do ya'll thnk of this combo? The dragon could kill the hand, but I could cast several..
