Best ways to avoid Improved Trip and Stunning Attack?

If I remember correctly doesn't Fortified armor give a % chance to not be affected by criticals, sneak attacks, & stuns?

From the SRD:
Fortification: This suit of armor or shield produces a magical force that protects vital areas of the wearer more effectively. When a critical hit or sneak attack is scored on the wearer, there is a chance that the critical hit or sneak attack is negated and damage is instead rolled normally.
Fortification Type Chance for Normal Damage Base Price Modifier
Light 25% +1 bonus
Moderate 75% +3 bonus
Heavy 100% +5 bonus
Strong abjuration; CL 13th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, limited wish or miracle; Price varies (see above).

Fortification only nullifies Crits and Sneak Attacks.

A potion of Enlarge Person is a fairly cheap way to avoid being tripped (+4 size bonus), but you become a much bigger target for a Ray of Enfeeblement. A potion of Bull's Strength may also help with opposed Strength checks.

The AC loss can be offset by a potion of Shield of Faith (+5 deflection bonus to AC), while a potion of Displacement would negate half the hits against you.

Potions of Bear's Endurance and Heroism would also help you with your saves against stunning.

Also from the SRD, about Stunning Fist:

Constructs, oozes, plants, undead, incorporeal creatures, and creatures immune to critical hits cannot be stunned.

So does Fortification make you immune or not ?

interesting... I never noticed it said creatures immune to crits were immune to stunning... makes sense though.

Best way to avoid all those effects is to be a dwarven monk. +4 versus trips, wisdom to touch AC, good saving throws, and +2 to Con.

I'm curious, though... why those specific things? Have you had difficulty in the past with these effects? In my games, they almost never come up.

Not from any direct interpretation of Fortification.

Emphasis mine. When a critical hit or sneak attack is scored... that's pretty damn explicit as to what fortification protects against. It doesn't say makes you immune some percentage of the time, it negates critical hits and sneak attacks that are scored against the wearer. A stunning attack is not a critical hit nor a sneak attack and is not subject to being negated.

He has a BBEG that knows the party by heart.

Honestly: The best defence against the tripping and stunning monk is the barbarian bodyguard with one or two buff spells. Give the barbarian a ring of counterspells with ray of enfeeblement.

Don't forget to get your bard a wand of fireballs and use Tashas Hideous laughter.

Do you mean, it negates all sneak attacks and crits against the wearer? I don't read it that way. I do agree about not helping against stunning attacks.

Fortification negates sneak attacks that score and crits depending upon the percentage of the armor, although heavy fort (100%) would basically be the above negating sneak attacks and crits 100% (all) of the time. Am I missing something?
