Beyond High Fantasy

Hmm, let me make sure I'm getting this right. Does the movie Sin City have noir characteristics? Dark, corrupt city, some characters stuck in situations not of their making, stylistic "pessimistic", even though some characters are redeemed or saved from a cruel fate

Any closer or way off left field?

Sin City is heavily steeped in noir, with dramatic overtones of pulp action.

Noir isn't much of an action genre by itself. Fights, even in the film-noir movies, are often only a couple of gunshots long. A lot of pulp writers took the more psychological noir setting and used it as the backdrop for action-oriented stories.
