Big, 2 handed Mauls or Bludgeoning Weapons ?

Most of the 3.5 and 3.0 books have almost no 2 handed Bludgeoning weapons. I found the Maul (exotic 1 hand) only.

Any dragons or Books have "different" weapons ? Especially big ones ? Making a new character for a Warcraft campaign and those big hammer/mauls sure look neat. :)

This is a shameless plug, but see my Weapon-a-Week Thread in the House Rules forum. The:

  • Maul,
  • Goupillon,
  • Martel,
  • Bec de Corbin, and
  • Lucern Hammer
might specifically interest you.

Just Bump up the Damage dice by one step, and make the weapon size one size larger, and you're set. If you want to follow 3.5 rules, take a large greatclub (2d6 dmg, -2 to hit for a medium person), let them use an exotic feat to use it, and go to town. If you'd prefer to stick with 3.0 sizings, make the weapon huge, 2d6 dmg, and allow an exotic feat to use it two handed, and you're set.

But most weapons don't go above 1d10 for damage, not even the maul in the FRCS, except for the Greatsword.

What exactly is the reason that 2 handed, martial, bludgeoning weapons don't have a 2d6 damage dice?

The unimproved crit multiplier and threat range would seem to make that a no brainer.

Is there are mechanical reasoning beyond price and effectiveness against undead? Am I drastically underestimating said value?

Only way they're better against undead in 3.5 is that you can make them Disrupting. Even though skeletons have DR 5/bludgeoning, zombies have DR 5/slashing, so no benefit there. The only real reason they don't do 2d6 (vs. 1d12) is that the greatsword is supposed to be the biggest damage-dealing PC weapon. Other than that, no reason I can see.

Is there a 1d12 martial bludgeoning besides the warmace (which has a built-in attack penalty, right)?
Built in armor penalty you mean... and not that I know of.

However, as a 1d12 weapon, you could have a "large version" at 3d6, albeit with some severe negatives. Those being, requirements that the user have an exotic proficiency or suffer a -4, and a -2 penalty for using a weapon not sized for your character.

That would technically be the biggest wotc bludgeoning weapon weildable by a medium sized character, I think.

Creamsteak,

That's the hand-and-a-half exotic weapon combined with the monkey grip feat, right?

Yeah, my primary curiosity is just if the slightly lower damage dice was a mechanical concern or just tradition. (Mercifully, an enlarged greatclub wielder does a mite better in 3.5. I always found that irritating.)

Thanks.
