Big Bang Theory and the Dungeon Master's Guide

I have been posting everywhere, since season one of this show, that WotC/Hasbro should pay for some nice product placement here.

Maybe using the new D&D Essentials line so that fans of the show can go and buy it

edit: And yes, the only bad thing about this show so far is the laugh track (even if its generated by a studio audience)

They would NEVER use the Essentials Line.

They'd use the most hardcore rules they could find :P

I just got into this show myself about a week ago (I'm halfway into Season 1).

I agree with Morrus about the laugh track - it was ("was") VERY loud and annoying to me - but that was just the Pilot episode. It was immediately toned back by the second episode (along with the annoying green lights in the kitchen being replaced). Anyway, maybe you saw the pilot, or maybe it is just loud. To this American (used to our TV's shouting at us), it is normal now.

There was a mention of D&D pretty early - when they were asking what genre's were allowed as far as Halloween costumes go... D&D was called out among Marvel, etc etc. Of course, how do you have a show like this and NOT mention/feature D&D. I look forward to future references.

Anyway, I am really enjoying it despite the fact that much of what they say flies over my head (except some of the gaming references) - I have no geek cred as my status reflects, so when they start talking science stuff, I'm more like Penny... For my wife, she doesn't get any of the gamer references at all (or any of the scientific stuff) but she likes the show lot as well.

I watched a bit of an episode on some obscure channel here once and the incredibly loud canned laughter every 3-4 seconds after anyone said anything - funny or not - made me switch channel pretty quickly! I know canned laughter is part and parcel of these US sitcom things, but I never got assaulted by it to quite tha degree in Friends! Threw me right out of the story; all I could hear was the canned laughter.

It was so bad that it occurred at times when nobody had even made a joke! I just couldn't focus on anything but the canned laughter every few seconds. And I did watch Cheers, Friends, etc., all of whihc had canned laughter (or "live studio audiences") but none were quite so intrusive as this.

Then again, I'm far from an expert on US sitcoms; maybe you get used to it. I dunno! :)

It's funny, I know many people (my wife at one time) who passed on many British comedies because they couldn't get past the accents. It distracted them from the comedy. But I kept pushing for them to watch some of my favorites and eventually you get used to it and enjoy the show. Could be the same for the laugh track. Although I wish more US comedies would ditch it. Modern Family, for example, is a great show and no laugh track. Someone needs to convince producers that it isn't needed.

Especially if she becomes obnoxiously obsessed with the game. "Not now, Leonard, I'm trying to pick out a new Utility power for Lady Dragonmist!"

Which would be believable for her character, since she also was kicking butt when they invited her to play Halo while Leonard was out with Leslie Winkle. ;)

Triple ditto... they really are doing a great job with that program.

They really ought to do a D&D style episode: I would love to see them do it a la Dead Gentlemen's "The Gamers" series.

You do know that, if there was a D&D episode, there would have to be an Edition War. I'm pretty sure that there are some strongly held opinions among our primary characters.......
