Big FFG Sale -- I went on a spree!

If that's the case, all the ones I was interested in aren't. :/

Don't let 3.0/3.5 blah blah blah stop you from grabbing some great books. The ideas are excellent and you can convert the material to be anything that you need.

Dude, this sounds like Christmas gifts for your group to me.

If they were as thrilled about getting new D&D books as I am, that would be great. Most of them prefer other games to D&D and those that do like D&D aren't the rabid "must own everything" geeks like me.

The only ones I didn't buy were the 4 "Path" class books. Does anyone have much experience with them? Bear in mind I don't really need more crunchy books but again, they are 5 bucks.

Generally, I found that they were very hot and cold. And if you don't dig prestige classes, you'll like it less than me,

What I dug...
Prestige classes, especially the way that the provided a full organization for each, but didn't make it part of the class, so it was easy to use them seperately.

Legendary classes... not for the faint of heart. The ones in PoM come off a little weak to me, though.

Bard variants in PoM. Makes the bard more than just a spellsinger.

Terrain rules in path of the sword.

Small gods rules in PoF

What I didn't dig:
Variant classes. I hate core class bloat!

Schools. Trading XP for abilities. Problematic, especially under 3.5 XP rules.

Most of the variant rules in PoM

YMMV, naturally.

"What? You're pissed that we're selling books for $5 on our website? Try stocking up on our proven sellers next time, rather than spreading yourself thin on Joe Schmo's World of d20. Next!"

:p

Wait a second... I think I am Joe Schmo!

I think the problem for a retailer would be something more along the line of:

"I did stock up on all your proven sellers, they're still on my shelf, and now they won't sell because folks can get them from you for 5 bucks."

The thing that cracks me up about this, is there are still people looking at it going, "Man, how can I justify spending $5 bones." Now I admit that not every game is for everyone, and cost can be an issue, but at $5, even if you just read it and never use it, how can you feel that you haven't gotten your money's worth?

I feel that this is part of the problem with roleplayers. We have such specifc wants that when half of us say, "We want more fluff" and books come out supporting it, we don't buy them because, "Well, it wasn't what I was looking for."

It's like those people who always clamor for the grim and grittier d20 and then don't run out and buy Dark Legacies, Conan, or Grim Tales because they don't want to put the effort into seeing which one could help them with their game.

Ah well, old rant. Sorry, move along folks, nothing to see here.

Not in my experience. :) I've never seen a retailer that differentiated between this and that d20 company, they usually have either a completely random smattering or they get every new product that comes out...I've seen very few in between (although I know Ghostwind's store makes educated buying decisions, it's the only one I've heard of). This 10-day sale isn't hurting retailers in any significant way...certainly not more than some other companies' policies... *whistles and walks away*

But really, we're derailing the thread. It's awesome to see people snatching up cool game books for amazing prices, this is the real holiday joy thread. :D

I am not in a habbit of converting anything. :)

It really isn't that big a deal, I use nearly every 3.0 book in my collection with no problem whatsoever. (The exceptions being some of the more unbalanced prestige classes - but that happens in 3.5 as well, just less often.)

Psion,

Would you mind emailing me? There's something I'd like your opinion on.

Thanks!
