thanks guys...

anyway. last night, we found this huge treasure horde, and each party member's share of that is 700,000 gp. (killed a PC from a former campaign who had been stealing left and right from anyone he could, even fellow party members.) so, with that and the money we already had, in the words of the DM, "time to go shopping". i e-mailed him a list of my requests, so hopefully next week i will be able to find and/or place an order for everything i need.

so there all you naysayers. :p

When I hit level 24 I can take another feat, even an epic one. Ideas? Where is Penetrate Damage Reduction (ELH?) the party’s fighter mentioned that he is going to get this one.

Yep, it's in ELH. The 3.0 version lets you penetrate DR as a +2 higher than the weapon you're using. So, if you're using a +5 sword, you penetrate n/+7 DR. It was 3.5ized to let you breach material DRs.

Is Skin of the Hero from the new PsiHB or the old one? This DM is not totally adverse to psionics, so that might fly.

It's in both, but the 3.0 version is better. It gives a +3 luck bonus to AC, attacks, and saves, and is 68k gp. The 3.5 version from XPH spreads the types around.

What does the necklace of adaptation do again?

Yes, a +5 mithril celestial chain shirt of heavy fortification would definitely require DM approval. ;) I’m definitely going to want to keep those Hide and Move Silently bonuses though, so I’m going to want them somewhere.

I don’t know if he’s going to go for horseshoes of the zephyr on boots, but I can always ask. ;)

Necklace of Adaptation generates a thin atmospheric sheath around your character, so you can breath no matter what the conditions. It's also a handy thing to have in the event someone casts Nail to the Sky on your character (which puts them in orbit).

No, no, the chainmail version. It actually would wind up with an armor bonus of +10, and a max Dex of +10, ACP of 0, and 10% spell failure. It's something like a 20k surcharge if you break it out.

The crossbow is annoying… composite shortbow would probably be much improved. What properties would you put on that? And I like the variable arrows idea. one party member has silver arrows with essence of wolfsbane – came in really handy last week when a gang of werewolves attacked us!

+5, Holy, Distance, and another +2 of whatever you want. Then start buying +1 Chaotic, +1 Lawful, and a wide variety of +1 Bane vs. Blah arrows.

Another thing I was thinking of was to have a decent animal companion. After all, we’ve got the shadowdancer with 6 shadows (each with class levels!) and the paladin with his dragon mount… and wife, and did I mention that one player now has 2 characters for some reason? And I’ve got jack squat.

Hrm. That sounds like Binky is just plain out of his league. My advice remains...dispose of Binky and replace him with the Twinkinator.

Brad

thanks for the advice.

but still, i say he's not as useless as people seem to have gotten the impression. i'd way rather have an interesting character than a powerhouse like the yakman with 0 personality (or whose personality is merely a reflection of his powers).

hey, look at it this way. if i'm even half as powerful as the most powerful guy in the group, that's fine. let them do all the fighting anyway. ;) there are more things in D&D than how powerful you are in combat, and i want to be a winner at that too. but in order to do that, you must first survive the combat... and i also want that. ;)

that doesn't sound too bad. ;)

in fact, last session we took on another PC (for some reason, like we needed another) - and i think his bodyguard might be tougher than he is! :D

Aha! :)

Now, here is the response my DM sent me to the e-mail I sent him. Tell me Binky would not kick ass after making these changes, eh? With this DM, if he says its possible, then it’s actually more than possible. ;)

Some background to help you understand what he is talking about… in this past Wednesday’s session, after fighting off the uber-werewolves (Binky really was completely useless in that fight, with no silver weapons), we came across a halfling necromancer, leading his “Army of Darkness” with his vampire Minotaur bodyguard at his side. After a lengthy discourse, the necromancer and his bodyguard joined with our party, bringing along some of his incorporeal minions (just what we needed – more uber-PCs to throw me off!)

So, we started back off on our way. We shortly reached a town run by elves, but it was a trading town so many races were there (except humans, who are at war with the elves). While meeting up with our contact at a bar, the paladin realized that he had been robbed. We found the thief after some searching, and killed him while polymorph into a rat. The Minotaur vampire turned the gnome thief (although the DM refers to the thief as a halfling in this e-mail) into a vampire servant, and then commanded that he showed us his stash. Thus, the huge monetary “reward” I mentioned earlier in the thread.

You notice that my DM has a cruel sense of humor? ;)

And the “Elf book” referred to would be Quintessential Elf.

I agree with you. First the party has now a large
amount of cash available. Second you are the only Elf
in the party and as such are treated here as a
citizen. So finally demanding that the party let you
buy things is a good idea. If you feel like taking out
parts of the party the theif/mage vampiric halfling
would love to help you out. he has been commanded to
not steal from the party but he can steal from pthers
and give it to party members to frame them. He is very
upset at being controlled and would gladly pay any
price to have the minotaur eliminated to gain his
freedom.
since your an elf you can purchase a true strike
mighty composite longbow which will give you a nice
+20 to hit with arrows. Also you can puchase bane and
dread arrows which give a sick bonus to damage (dread
also causes a fort vs death and ignores crit
immunity). for dread and bane arrows you must choose a
creature type which it effects, but with arrows you can
have an assortment rather cheaply.
Susalian chainweave (an elven technic of making chain
mail in the Warrior handbook) grants a DR 3/piercing
prevnting 3 dmg from every non piercing attack
combined with mithril chain shirt wouldn't be a bad
idea. Slap on "sacred heart" from exalted deeds, heavy
fortification and your rocking. Getting a dancing or
animated sheild with a +5 enhancement bonus wouldn't
be a bad idea.

on the topic of animal followers, you are next to an
elven woodland where dire bears are common so you can
summon one to be your mount/friend/companion and what
not. A dire does get upto 36 HD and huge in size
sounds like a big fellow eh? And I am using the 3.5
rules for advancing you companion based on you ranger
level so the bear would get bonuses.

I hope this gives you a few good ideas plus the Elf
book has some good things in it. If you want to
exchange any unused feats you have for feats from
there feel free.

A quick question. How did you survive to Epic levels with a name like Binky? Any DM I know would have caused you to die a most ignominous death during the first session.... ;)

well, some of my fellow current and former compatriots are called Casper, Drupalong, Foghorn, Spooky, and Strongbad...

Are you sure you're using the right system for the game... maybe Nobilis would be better?
