D&D 4E Bioware working on 4e Forgotten Realms MMO

I know Bioware has been hard at work on a new MMO for at least a year. From all accounts that I've read on the interwebs, this MMO is apparently story driven and supposed to utilize a huge license (so huge, EA dropped $860M).

...

That's pretty insane and the only fantasy property that I can possibly think of that would be worth $860M.
That's misleading.

EA paid $860 million for the entirety of Bioware and Pandemic. That accounts for much, much more than just a licensed MMO.

Anyway, doesn't seem to matter anymore. According to Scott, Atari's got the license.

Wouldn't Lucas Arts be doing all Star Wars games?

They're mostly just a publisher these days. Most of their recent games have been done by outside developers. Indeed, Bioware did KOTOR and Pandemic worked on the Star Wars Battlefront games. I think they've got only one internal developer left, working on Star Wars Force Unleashed for the PS3/Xbox360.

And they actually don't even publish all the Star Wars games. Ubisoft released one last year for handhelds.

True, and I wasn't trying to misconstrue anything. It was mentioned somewhere that the main reason was for the MMO.

Bah, that doesn't matter. Who says that Bioware couldn't license it through Atari? I'm more of a believer because Scott said that EA and Bioware are not working on a game.

Scott, I definitely think your a stand up guy and all, but I still have a shadow of a doubt. If for the sole reason that I spent a lot of time on this crazy theory. :) Shouldn't you already know Atari's plans?

Well, with all the past accusations of "lying," if EA/Bioware could be working on a FR MMO, I don't think Scott would be quite so unequivocal that they are not doing so. And Scott didn't say he didn't already know Atari's plans, he said he will meeting to talk about them. That leaves plenty of room for knowing, but meeting to discuss details, timing etc.

I will go out on a limb and guess that Bioware is working on a Star Trek MMO that they are targeting to release shortly after the new film.

The D&D (and it's worlds like FR & EBR) rights are held by Atari. I will being meeting with them on Tuesday in NYC to talk about their plans for D&D.

As a dedicated and often frustrated player of D&D Online, do me a favor and give them a good kick in the pants for me.

Given Atari's financial troubles, it's possible EA and Bioware could do a deal with them to obtain the license for a FR MMO. Not that I'd like to see one set in 4th Edition Realms.

Much more likely that any MMO made by Bioware will it's own IP. Or a Knights of the Old Republic one.

Anyway, till I see an official announcement from Bioware, I'm not going to bother with this. Way too much 'I can't say anything right now, but here's a tiny teaser' style of announcements from companies these days. Gets annoying!

You mean something like Perpetual's Star Trek Online? For some reason, I'm happy that BioWare will not do a Star Trek MMO - I would become oblivious of reality!

Cheers, LT.
